5 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it   October 4, 2008

I really enjoyed this CD, specially INTERMEZZO NO.1. If you are an Abba fan - this product will not disappoint you. The inside booklet also a great souvernir. No disappointments at all.

4 out of 5 stars Abba   September 29, 2008

Abba's third album continued the year on year improvement of the song quality on their albums. 'So Long' has the unfortunate boast of being the only Abba single not to chart in the UK, but what was to follow set Abba aside from virtually all other 'pop' groups. This album contains two of Abba's most loves singles, 'SOS' and the classic 'Mamma Mia'. The album also includes several other Abba essentials such as the wonderful 'Rock Me', 'I've Been Waiting for You (why was this never released as a single?) and the wedding favourite 'I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do.
The remaining tracks are fun too , such as 'Hey Hey Helen' and 'Bang A Boomerang' even if the later does sound rather like a Eurovision parody.
In my view this is the first essential Abba album for your collection.

3 out of 5 stars On Their Way Forward   September 19, 2008

It seems that Abba's albums have a natural progression with each slightly better than the previous. On their third album the band were beginning slowly to define a style that would lay claim to the greatest pure pop band of all time, but they were fare from there.

Again there's a hotch potch of styles and sadly a considerable amount of dross to wade through. They were beginning to put the hits together and it was almost as if the best tracks off this album would be plucked out for greatest hits collections whilst the others would stay in obscurity. So we get "Mamma Mia", "SOS" and "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, but sadly little else of note. Almost as if the songwriting is still evolving and waiting for that breakthrough. Again there are too many filler tracks. Just listing the tracks giives some idea of the obvious lack of class - "Tropical Loveland," "Hey, Hey Helen," "Man in the Middle" and "Bang a Boomerang" Bjorn and Benny try their hand at classical with "Intermezzo No 1" but once again it's quite a lame effort.

5 out of 5 stars ABBA were always the 'tops'!   October 2, 2007

Only ABBA's second album was already putting The Beatles in the shade!

Lots of powerful numbers here that have since become famous favourites; 'Mamma Mia', 'SOS', 'Bang-A-Boomerang' and 'I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do'. Also one or two 'oddities' for ABBA in the form of; 'Tropical Loveland', (which could have been a solo for Frida) the unusual 'Man In the Middle', and the one that is almost bordering on the classical with 'Intermezzo No. 1'. ABBA also utilised the very sexy voice of Bjorn on a couple of tracks here, and this album also includes the infamous track 'So Long' that was to be forever remembered as the only single of theirs never to chart. ABBA were not known for making mistakes, yet if they had flipped this over and released it for the 'B Side' which was: 'I've Been Waiting For You' - absolutely nothing convinces me that this would not have been a number one for them at the time!

Great timeless stuff!

5 out of 5 stars Cheerful, enjoyable ABBA album!!!   September 29, 2007

1. Mamma Mia - An ABBA classic. Definetly a good way to open the album 'ABBA.' Superb No1!!! (5/5)

2. Hey Hey Helen - Its a glitter rock genius! Strange and daft lyrics, but overall its a catchy track. (4/5)

3. Tropical Loveland - It can be known for quite a ridiculous song, but 'Tropical Loveland' has got good charisma and vocals. (4/5)

4. SOS - ABBA's 2nd top ten hit after 'Waterloo' is beautifully sung by Agnetha. A romantic chorus and good keyboard flicks. (5/5)

5. Man in the Middle - The B-side to 'SOS.' Bjorn sings in a rather funky or jazzy style to this underated gem. Fab vocals, perharps a little daft. (4/5)

6. Bang-A-Bommerang - Amazing song all about love. A really cheerful and happy song. The girls voices are nice and clear, too. This should have been a hit. (5/5)

7. I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do - Reached No38 in the British Charts. Odd , deep vocals from the girls in this, but the music arrangements are still at a good standard. (4/5)

8. Rock Me - The B-side to 'I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do', but I think 'Rock Me' could have been a hit itself. A very chilling song. Bjorn's vocal is good and his gitar flicks are very steady. A great song. (5/5)

9. Intermezzo No 1 - Superb instrumental piece performed by the brilliant Benny. It is quite catchy in some ways and in other ways its fantastic arrangement. (4/5)

10. I've Been Waiting For You - Beautiful love ballad by Agnetha. It was a hit itself in one country for it is a soothing, romantic lovesong. Great!!! (5/5)

11. So Long - Brilliant guitar flicks in this. The girls voices are quite unusual but its very different. Cool chorus, too! (5/5)

12. Crazy World (Bonus Track) - Slow and furtile ballad sung by Bjorn. Although not an extremely clear lyric, it has a fab flow to the music. (4/5)

13. Medley: Pick A Bale Of Cotton, On Top Of Old Smokey, Midnight Special - Traditional folk songs but together in a catchy medley performed by ABBA. Became the B-side of 'Summer Night City' in late '78. (4/5)
