Severe Disappointment July 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been a faithful Cafe Mambo fan and have most of the CD's in my collection. Each new release is better than the one prior. I have been eagerly anticipating this one and cannot express my disappointment. Where is Pete Gooding? The first CD it seems our chap Andy Cato does not seem sure what to do and on CD 2 he confirms that he does not know what he is doing at all. Why the brand felt its necessary to change a winning recipe is beyond me. If you have enjoyed the previous Cafe Mambo editions, be assured that non of them is represented on the 2008 edition. It gives the feeling of those cheap CD's you get free with magazines.... Enough said.
Great cd1 not so great cd2 July 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Andy Cato of Groove Armada fame is on mixing duty for San Antonio's super popular Mambo. CdOne is an excellent sunset mix, true Balearic a bit deep at times and it does the job fantastically well. Cdtwo however is an unspired deep house set that manages to be extremely cheesy without including any cheese. Pete Gooding is missed
A fine selection of beats June 24, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is an excellent summer release. From the very relaxed CD1 to the slightly more upbeat CD2 all very well mixed.
I haven't heard JJ Cale since the early 80's and it was just great. I'll have to dig out some old vinyl.
I listened to this last evening in the garden with a glass of Rioja and a good smoke and it just hit the spot.
Quality... June 23, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After listening to this mix for the first time I was left feeling that the other comments had not done it justice, so I decided to write my own! Out of all the previous Mambo compilations released, I felt this one captures the spirit of the Ibiza sunsets most. The mix blends several genres of music seamlessly, and avoids the obvious tracks that one would think would have been included. I have been lucky enough to catch several of Andy Cato's Mambo sets, and listening to this mix took my right back. Buy this compilation - You won't be disappointed!
