 Ne-Yo returns with the irresistibly dancey Closer August 6, 2008

There seems to be a trend at the moment in R&B for dancey tracks - 2008 already evidencing this in the form of smash hits from Rihanna (Don't Stop The Music) & Chris Brown (Forever). And so, here comes Ne-Yo with the first single off his third album in as many years and it's obvious as soon as that relentless beat kicks in this was a number 1 in the making.
What makes Closr such a success is that it blends the laid-back vibe of past tracks like Because Of You and So Sick with a newfound energy that results in something slick, modern and fundamentally catchy + Ne-Yo's vocals are on top form. And while i think i prefer the more soulful melodious feel of those two aforementioned singles, Closer is a really classy tune, shows that Ne-Yo is keen to push himself into different genre's and is a promising taster for his new album.
The Agent X Bassline mix featured as this CD's b-side is an interesting interpretation - i wasn't sure initially (not that keen on the cut up vocals in the lead-in) but as the burbling synths build throughout the track's duration, this quickly grows on you.

Just love this masterpiece by Ne-Yo, well groovy! Closer will be massive - Ne-Yo is so good at singing, love his Sexy Love and So Sick singles too.
