Absolutely breathtaking September 30, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album is stunning, I am a huge Enigma fan, have all the albums. This album features a long awaited return to the familiar Enigma sound of Cretu. The last album was hugely disappointing with the exeption of the track Hello and Welcome but Seven Stars just blows the mind. Every minute of the album is delicious. It brings tears to the eyes. Any Enigma fan recently disappointed by the previous album, don't hesitate to buy this you won't be disapointed. Thankyou Enigma
Back to the roots plus much more! September 27, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am truly impressed by this album. After "A Posteriori" I wasn't expecting much change, since Cretu uses his new "Alchemist" machine to create music. I was positively disappointed - "Seven lives..." is Enigma at its best. With such tracks as "La Puerta del Cielo", "Deja Vu", Cretu takes us back to the real sound roots of Enigma. And there is much more with experimenting and voice sampling.
The only thing I don't like is Andru Donalds in the background. He's not singing - he's shouting, and it takes away all the magic and enigmatic sound. He's been actually shouting since "Voyageur" (2003) or so. Michael, please get rid of Andru. Use some female voice instead.
Spellbinding! :) September 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Put the headphones on, and after 47 or so minutes of bliss, took them off, and... wow.
I've not been into Enigma long - I only bought Cross of Changes and their most recent album a couple of years ago - but this album has made me an Enigma fan forever. Definately the strongest Enigma album I've listened to.
The music took me on a wonderful journey, through a beautiful, rich and diverse soundscape. Every song was a pleasure to listen to - each different to the last, with a strong melody to every song. As with any album, I've got my favourites, but there's not one I'd skip because I loved them all.
So I cannot pick a favourite. The whole album should be viewed as a whole piece of music, each song flowing and ebbing into the next. There's some tracks that are dark and broody, some that are very sensual, and all accompanied by those brilliant Enigma beats. 'Language of Sound', the final track, shows just how good Cretu is at mixing voice samples to create an amazing effect.
The songs on the bonus CD aren't as strong as the tracks on the main CD, but they're lovely and very much appreciated. They seem more like unfinished experiments, but each song is long enough to satisfy you - there's been no corners cut in length. 'Sunrise' is my favourite - thunder sounds and bird chirping are just some of the sounds on this one that are mixed to great effect. It's entirely instrumental, but I believe this particular song could've been a hit single if there were lyrics, and a few tweaks here and there. There's also a different version of 'Language of Sound' on this bonus CD, where Cretu seems to have let himself loose and added some extra sounds, and mixed it up a little differently.
Amazing. I can't WAIT for the next album after hearing this! :)
WOW! September 24, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's been a while coming - but this new album has been well worth waiting for! Seriously, anybody who has ever listened to a track by Enigma and enjoyed it this album is a must buy. Being a fan from the first album I think the best thing about Seven Lives Many Faces is that all styles used before have been combined to produce this awesome album.
5 stars and worth every single penny!
