1 out of 5 stars Boring Remixes...Again   October 29, 2008

How is it that the "'babes," with all their popularity, aren't able to get decent remixes done? Are they studying at the Kylie Minogue find-the-lamest-remixers-possible-and-dump-the-results-on-the-paying-public school? Disappointing. Download the "Dove and Smart" remix and ignore the three other tracks.

They just keep bringing out great songs!! I know they've sampled another song, but they've made it their own. Can't wait for the album!!!

4 out of 5 stars It all depends on the context   October 8, 2008

When i heard Girls for the first time i have to confess it was the same reaction i had felt when i first heard About You Now - A fantastic pop tune but just a touch too far on the side of being generic. Now, i love the Sugababes and think they are one of the best pop acts of the 21st century, but placing Girls up against past hits like Freak Like Me, Red Dress or some of their early singles from their first album it just lacks that 'raw', gritty feel that made us fall in love with the Sugababes.

But maybe it's harsh to look at Girls like that, the simple fact is that the Sugababes don't have to prove themselves anymore, they have already won their place in our hearts and in the vast tapestry of pop music. Taken on its own, Girls is a great song and easily holds its own against a lot of what's out there in the charts at the moment. It's insanely catchy (well, who couldn't resist that hook out of Here Come The Girls?) and after hearing it a few times now, i think the sample is actually used really well, Girls giving it a nice modern twist that is sure to appeal to a broad audience.

The track is infectious, its appeal undeniable, the fact that it's already charted at number 4 on downloads alone being evidence of that. No doubt about it, i like this song, and it pushes all the right buttons. Very much a 7.5 out of 10 - but when you're the Sugababes and are used to coming out with 9 or 10 out of 10 tracks, Girls does pale a little in comparison to former hits.

In terms of the remixes, the Danny Dove and Steve Smart mix is ok, but doesn't really go anywhere while the Dennis Christopher mix is dissapointing. Sadly, this CD doesn't contain the absolutely brilliant Fred Falke mix, a version that i well recommend you download.

Then, as the b-side we have Don't Look Back, an intiguing little track with tinges of Duffy to it - all acoustic guitar, vinyl crackle and retro soul vocals. It's nothing special but is a nice extra and sounds perfect for the autumn months.

Track Listing:

1. Girls (Radio Edit)
2. Don't Look Back
3. Girls (Danny Dove & Steve Smart Club Mix)
4. Girls (Dennis Christopher Club Mix)

Um, is it me or is Keisha actually retarded?? Don't answer that folks, I already have the answer.....
Much as I love this track there is something which I find completely shocking...

Note to Keisha....it's Here COME the girls....NOT...Here COMES the girls......

I can't believe nobody pulled her up about that..... the other girls are no doubt equally retarded.

OK, got that off my chest....I can goes now!

A smashing new start for the Babes. This song is just as good as their previous singles, just with a little 60th touch to it. I higly recomend this tune to pop fans!
