Superb Album.. Funky tracks that will definately have you swaying. November 22, 2008 I haven't bought this through Amazon but on digital download elsewhere, but I can tell you that if you like funky high energy house beats, then you'll love this album, mixed brilliantly with plenty of catchy samples this album goes all the way to making a superb purchase for anyone who loves a funky dance track.
Top notch! If in doubt, try a download site that let's you listen to a sample, you won't be disappointed, quite often I back my digital download up with purchase of the package product, this might just be one of those.
A top class album from a legendary label October 15, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
WOW!
....I wanted this to be the first word you read, as it was honestly the first thing i said when this arrived through my door and i tore open the envelope this morning.
I'd completely forgotten that this album, which promised to be 3CDs of 10 years of my favorite label's music, was packaged in a limited edition box set. I had seen it mentioned before I purchased it, but only when i saw it in all it's glory, did i realise what a special release this was.
After 5 minutes of admiring the slick looking box and 16 page booklet, dowsed in Finger Lickin's signature artwork, i realised i hadn't even thought to put one of the CDs on!
My excitement was mostly focused around CD3 (Future Funk) which was supposed to be full of brand new tracks, but i thought i better listen to the package in the order it was given to me, so plumped (no pun intended) for CD1 (Vinyl Vaults)
As soon as the intro kicked in, I realised why i had been such a fan of this label for the last 10 years of my life. The high energy, funk driven beats that had been the soundtrack to my weekends for as long as i could remember pumped through my stereo, still flowing with the same freshness they had first time round. Pure class and mixed to perfection by label owners Soul of Man.
I was delighted to see that CD2 (Classic Cuts) contained no less than 6 tracks from my favorite Finger Lickin' artists; the 'Plump DJs', including (in my opinion) 2 of the best dance tracks of all time 'Scram' and 'Electric Disco'. The word 'classic' is often overused in music, but i can safely say that the tracks on this CD are labeled accordingly!
Now for CD3... It opens with a typically funky number from A.Skillz and Krafty Kuts - 'Happiness' is upbeat, infectiousness and exactly what Finger Lickin' stands for. Clear proof the the label hasn't forgotten it's foot tapping, hand clapping roots. The mix then journeys through a host of new and unreleased rarities, showcasing the label's diversity and originality. Highlights have to be a brilliant 2008 remix of Lee Coombs - 'Future Sound of Retro' and the glossy, hypnotic 'Under The Lights' from the massively underrated Drumattic Twins.
All in all this is an awesome package and one that appeals to both hardcore fans and new comers alike. It does a truly legendary, genre defining label justice. So thank you Finger Lickin' for the last decade and here's to the next 10 years!
