Rubbish - buy the Soulwax DVD instead. December 28, 2008 I have to agree with the previous review. I too bought both the Soulwax and Justive DVD's at the same time, and wasted no time starting on the Justice DVD. Leaving that and moving on to the Soulwax DVD really did the Justice effort no favours, as with A Cross The Universe so fresh in my mind it was easy to mark Soulwax winners in absolutely every category possible.
Great live CD, poor poor effort on the DVD December 16, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm afraid this review is a shameless comparison between this DVD and that of Soulwax - Part of the Weekend Never Dies [2008]. That's because I bought them at pretty much the same time and they're so different. The Soulwax DVD is brilliantly filmed. The album on which it's centred is used really well throughout and it features interviews with lots of big names (Justice, LCD Soundsystem, Erol Alkan, Digitalism). Live footage is dropped in all the way.
The Justice DVD comes no where near. Live footage is used a lot, but the music is distorted and rough sounding every time. (The whole DVD is filmed on what seems to be a camcorder). Footage in between the live bits is about nothing in particular. There seems to be two characters in it - and they're not Auge and de Rosnay. It's the tour manager with a worrying gun obssesion (he buys guns and takes the tour members to a rifle range or two) and the coach driver! I really felt as though I wasted an hour watching this.
In fairness the live CD is brilliant, I love the album Cross and saw them in 2008 at Benicassim where they were amazing, the DVD to me is a waste of time. Buy the version without the DVD. If you're considering buying this, get the Soulwax DVD instead, Justice feature in it at least!
