Top Drawer Music Selection November 19, 2003 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
The 'another late night' series spawns into Late Night Tales and what a brilliant mix to aid the transition.Having listened to a few tracks by Nightmares on Wax and based on the pure quality of previous releases in this series I bought this album without listening to it. But as soon as I set it off playing I knew I had made an excellent purchase and this was going to be one funky outing. Keeping to the fantastic eclectic formula that this series has produced so far, NOW has produced a beauty here. Starting off with the cool midnight marauders NOW manages to melt the tracks together so well you dont notice one track finishing and the other starting. There are so many good tracks on this album but the highlights for me would be 'Quincy Jones - Listen' and 'Dusty Springfield - Spooky' I would recommend this album to all late night chillers and fans of NOW alike. This is one CD I will be playing for a long time to come.
How funky do you wanna try and get, bet you can't beat this! September 15, 2003 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
Having previously bought most of the Another Late Night and Back to Mine compilations it didn't take much convincing to invest in this little Late Night Tales / Nightmares on Wax edition. I have to say that it is quite simply incredible. Funky, Smooth, Uptempo...whatever. All i can offer is that I caught myself thumping my feet to it in the office, cocking my head like a chicken and drumming the desk constantly throughout. Beware it may take you too!!! Fantasic, keep em comin guys!
Another Late Improvement... July 29, 2003 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
..like the similar Back to Mine series, Another Late Night / Late Light Tales has had it's up's and down's. Whereas BTM started limply, improved after a few sets, became essential, and now appears to have spiralled into retro electro overdrive (and seriously missing the point on the way), ANL appears to have done quite the opposite. After an unexciting launch, Groove Armada / Zero 7 & Tommy Guerrero's additions added zest and consistency, and this 'little number' has maintained this high standard. Both this and Sly & Robbie's set have done justice to what is now an excellent chill out series for the serious listeners. Packed full of stoned out dub, funky old skool and classic grooves this is a must have for anyone requiring that post-guitar come down.........more of these please.
A refined blend July 23, 2003 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a mature and refined blend of eclectic tunes by some exceptional artists. I listened to it for the first time last night and immediately it's gone into the favorites section of my collection! From start to end you'll lose yourself in the subliminal effect of it all. If you like chill-out with a little funk and a jazzy edge then this is for you.
Another superb collection from the AnotherLateNight range July 8, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is yet another great collection of tunes put together by a music legend giving an insight into the music which inspired and shaped the music of the compiler, in this case hip hop master Nightmares On Wax. The compilation contains a fairly eclectic selection, many of which I had never heard until I listened to this but which I will now be looking for more of having heard them. I choose to get this compilation having bought the newest Nightmares On Wax album (Mind Elevation) and some of the other compilations in the AnotherLateNight range and whilst the sound of this is different to any of these (it maybe shows the influences that affected the creation of earlier Nightmares On Wax material) it is just as enjoyable to listen to and has expanded my music knowledge greatly. The major difference that this compilation (and others in the series) has over the majority of other compilations released is that it hasn’t been padded with current chart music in an effort to market it to teens, all of the music chosen seems to be used because Nightmares On Wax wanted to include it. Another highlight is the inclusion of an instrumental cover version of a classic song, by Nightmares On Wax, and the inclusion of a story broken into parts across the series. My favourite tracks on this compilation are Midnight Marauders and Listen (What It Is), neither of which I can give a good description to but which fit so well with the aim of the series of a compilation of music for late night listening. If you like this collection then try to get the compilations by Zero 7 and Groove Armada in this series.
