fantastic November 29, 2008 Im not usually Into Girl Groups But I first saw these When I went to see The Jonas brothers and i have to say they blue the house down everyone Loved there Performances I think Up is an amazing SOngs Its one Of those Pop Songs You sing over and Over, If You Liked there First two Singles Defintly check the album out you wont be disappointed.
Give The Girls A Chance! November 26, 2008 I bought this album at the same time as I got the Sugababes and Pussycat Dolls new albums. I have to say hands down Chasing Lights is the best of the three and that says a lot as I'm a huge Sugababes fan. Although The Saturdays are relatively unknown you will probably have heard of their great 2nd single 'Up'. I have to say I'm not such a fan of 'If This Is Love' as it doesn't really do the girls justice.
I was a bit scared of buying this as I worried it was too 'bubblegum pop' but I was proved wrong. My favourite songs are Work and Why Me, Why Now. It won't be long before The Saturdays will be rivalling the likes of Girls Aloud and The Sugababes in the charts...
The new Girls Aloud? In your dreams Saturdays. November 23, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I can't believe there's all this talk of the Saturdays de-throning Girls Aloud and the Sugababes as the top girl band around. Where both those bands are edgier, the Saturdays just churn out the same tired old pop sound. Their songs are just mediocre. They haven't done anything that's a patch on tracks like About You Now or Biology and they never will.
Chasing Lights - Brilliant! November 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Okay, I should just start with the fact that when I first heard The Saturdays, with their first single 'If This Is Love', I thought they were terrible. Never thought I'd even give them a second look, and that within a few months they would be lost forever in the world of awful dropped artists.
Thank God I was wrong! They followed up first uninspired song with an absolute gem of a song! 'Up' really is an inspired and brilliant pop song, with a brilliant little tune to it and the girls' vocals really shine. I thought I'd give this album a shot, buying it as soon as it came out (and luckily, accidentally bumping into the girls doing a signing at Bank in the Bullring, Birmingham too! YEY!)
1. If This Is Love - Still not a fan of this song. The beat is a little cheesy and feels like it's not had a lot of effort put on it. The girls' voices sound amazing though. Weakest song on the album. [5/10]
2. Up - Amazing single and what attracted me to the album, but what a dissapointment! It's not the same as in the video! I think that's horrific, because I really loved the single version of the song. Still good, but not as good as the version I've head before. [7/10] (The single version is a 10/10 for me!)
3. Keep Her - BRILLIANT! Brilliant baseline and the girls sound great. Anthemic sounding chorus that'll have you singing your head off! Should really be a single! I really hope it is! [10/10]
4. Issues - More of a melodic break from the artificial beats of the first three songs. Nice song, a little more ballady, but far from boring! [9/10]
5. Lies - Back to the artificial beats, but this time on a slower and more bland song. Feels a little fillerish when the other tracks are so strong. [6/10]
6. Work - This one gets me moving a little when I put it on. It's fun and fits in with the others, but isn't as exciting. Good chorus! [7/10]
7. Chasing Lights - By far the best song on the album. By far! It's incredible and I sing it all the time and listen to it even more. Far more of a ballad than the other songs, and has a beautiful and haunting melody. This would make an amazing Christmas single, and should without doubt be a single for them, regardless of when. Worth buying the album for this song alone. [11/10]
8. Set Me Off - Feels more dancey than the other songs. Not bad by a long shot, but not as good as other songs. [7/10]
9. Fall - Another ballad, this one feeling more isolated and gentle than other ones. The voices of the girls stand out more here against the minimal music. But yeah, a little too minimal perhaps. [7/10]
10. Vulnerable - Not too quick, not too slow! Nice voices again! This is a good song, though falls a little at the chorus. [7/10]
11. Why Me, Why Now - Another one that feels like a ballad, but really isn't. It's a good song though, and the girls REALLY sound like Girls Aloud on this song. The vocals, that is. Good song! [9/10]
12. Up [Wideboys Remix Edit] - Meh, not sure really about this. As a bonus, you can't really moan, and some people will love it. It's just a club like remix, just what you'd expect. I'm not a fan. [5/10]
Can I just say that I LOVE it. It really is an incredible pop album, something that has been missing from the scene for quite a while, actually. I am an utter Girls Aloud and Sugababes fan too, and I feel both of those groups have let me down with both of their most recent albums. They have rejected true pop, shooting off in a sixties Winehouse/Duffy tangent. This album has come in and satisfied my pop needs, filling the void left by Girls Aloud and the Sugababes! Yey for The Saturdays! I hope we get to hear a lot from them in the future, because this album is amazing!
Best Pop Album I've Heard In Years!! 10/10 !!! November 10, 2008 I am soooooo surprised when i first heard this album! It really is top notch! I would definately say much much better than the Sugababes and Girls Aloud. All songs are super catchy, have modern tempo's and the vocals are GEORGEOUS. I just LOVE the melodies. I would say the best pop album i've heard in 3 years!! Buy this is you were disappointed in Sugababes,(this album does remind me when the Sugababes used to write great pop songs). A brilliant album which has left me wanting more. Well done girls!! 10/10!
