Not ultimate at all October 30, 2008 Eurythmics made some of the greatest sounds of the 1980 in many genres, not just the standard synth-pop. Lennox & Stuart also made a major contribution in the forgotten band The Tourists before the birth of Eurythmics. Unfortunately this album contains too many tracks already available on Greatest Hits.
Some less inspired songs from the 1990s have been added. This really shows a lack of interest and imagination in view of the huge treasure trove of classic album tracks. The compilers could have chosen The Last Time from Revenge, Jennifer from Sweet Dreams, Shame & Beethoven (I Love to Listen to) from Savage, When the Day Comes Down from We Too Are One and Belinda & She's Invisible Now from the obscure first album In the Garden. But for those who never got round to Greatest Hits, it's a worthwhile purchase. Every rhythm they took, they made their own: consider the catchy calypso of Right By Your Side, grand rock ballads like Thorn In My Side and When Tomorrow Comes or the perfect pop of Love is a Stranger. Their emotional range is unique: the chilling menace of You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart makes a stark contrast to the joyful exuberance of There Must Be An Angel or the powerful affirmative Sisters Are Doing it for Themselves.
Good - but similar. June 21, 2006 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
The majority of items on this disc are the exact same as the Eurythmics collection previously released and already a part of many Annie fan's collections. The tracks are crisp and clear and the re-mastering is evident, Annie's voice front and centre, as it always was. 'I've got a life' - was new to me, I didn't find it as good as anything on the album 'Bare' and whilst powerfully sung I didn't feel it wasn't any new tack for the group. 'I saved the world today' - again, not as good as anything on 'Bare', you get the sense of a message perhaps lost, we know her music does have a lot of saving graces but the world? Maybe I missed something there. Some classic items here, 'Thorn in my side', 'Sweet dreams', 'Miracle of love' - to be fair though any fans already have these in their collections. Only buy if you don't have the first collection or if you are a die hard fan. I did and don't regret it, I just didn't feel as though I got anything really 'new'.
Hit and miss March 15, 2006 6 out of 24 found this review helpful
This album is good to listen to, it has all their biggest hits and the hits that weren't as good as their biggest hits. I personally prefer their biggest hits and there is a lot of them on here but not enough to make a good album which is a shame. There classics that everyone knows like Sweet Dreams are on here but unless you are a really die hard fan I wouldn't bother with this. I am glad i bought it for the hits that everyone knows one or two of but it was a little dissapointing for me to be honest and i wouldn't of bought it if i know that it wasn't as good as it could of been. It's just an old greastest hits being repackages to make the record company more money.
Tremendous! February 16, 2006 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
A really great compilation from a great band. Annie Lennox's unique vocals make this a musical treat. With excellent tracks ranging from the anthemic to the vaguely melancholic, plus the outstanding new single 'I've Got A Life' this album really is a must have! Superb!
Eurythmics Serve Up A Tasty Meal That Doesn't Quite Fill You January 6, 2006 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
Annie Lennox's hugely distinctive voice powers through this compilation of soem of the Eurythmic's greatest songs. Dave Stewart's production is genius and Lennox breathes energy into every song, especially new track, "I've Got A Life," classic, "Sweet Dreams...," and the Rio carnival feel of "Right By Your Side." One problem however, there are some of Eurythmics bes songs are missing. Where is "Angel," and "Beethoven?"In effect the pros outway the cons and this is an essential album for anyone who does not already own a Eurythmics Greatest Hits Compilation.
