Thoroughly recommended October 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first Blair Douglas cd so I am reviewing with "fresh ears". Each song has a short written background which is very informative and important to remember when listening to the tracks. As there are different guest vocalists each song is something different. Also, the songs lyrics are in Gaelic and english, also something I have not come across before. The album is a mixture of happy, sad, dramatic, scottish, world music, each song is a delight in its own way. I had to review and recommend this album as it is so refreshing and cannot be simply classed as scottish folk. One minute you will tapping your feet ,the next will have you sitting in quiet contemplation. Finally if you never thought of the accordion as "funky", listen to track 10 and be suprised! If you buy this album I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Worth the wait! August 10, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Well he's done it again, another fantastic album from the very talented Blair Douglas. The line up of vocal talent that features on the new album (Rory MacDonald, Bruce Guthro, Eddi Reader, Kathleen MacInnes and Michael Marra to name only a few) is testament to the regard in which Blair is held by his fellow musicians. The lyrics and arrangements will take you on an emotional journey which should not be missed. This album is a must for anyone at all interested in Scottish music, I'll rephrase that, a must for anyone interested in music. Blair's music can't be pigeon-holed in any genre, it is unique, quite simply in a class of it's own.
FANTASTIC August 8, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
He's done it again, another great creation. After waiting a while since his last release, this compilation was certainly worth waiting for. If your a Blair Douglas fan, go and get it. Every track is brilliant and the more you play it the better it gets. Keep them coming Blair.
