"Delta," By Delta Goodrem - Daniel T Shoneye October 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ever since I heard the last note sung on her debut single "Born To Try," I knew there was something equistely distinctive about this young woman's vocal capability. Each album represent's a new chapter; reflecting evolvement within her vocals; always maintaning that same delta "disctinctivity." Many reviews have been negative about this album. In comparison to her debut release; this cd doesn't sound as "commercially catchy" as some may have anticipated. Delta's voice will always sound remarkably distinctive and beautifully toned; therefore I will always buy everything she records. I appreciate this album more for her vocal content than the actual essence of the songs. There are upbeat tracks such as "You will Only Break My Heart," "Bare Hands" and "One Day," which I feel are all equally not well-suited to her usual style. "In This Life," debuted a firey, sassy side of Delta which was refreshing; yet still within her comfort zone [due to the tracks edgy and repetitous melody]. I feel that is as far as she should have stretched it [with upbeat melodies] as the 3 tracks outlined above dont work. This album is a MUST-HAVE for Any Goodrem fan because anything recorded witha voice this beautiful should be purchased by anybody with even half a brain. What's so great about Delta is her voice is so beautiful that even one good track out of 14; would still make the album a worthwhile purchase. Tracks to look out for include: "In This Life," "Angels in the Room, ["Classic" Delta; reflecting her vocals against a slow, light melody], "Brave Face" [Upbeat Melody + catchy.] [Successful in synchronizing her voice with the tracks upbeat melody]. "Possesionless," is another fantastic track which is upbeat + catchy. All In all the album is a worthwhile purchase. [Misty_2007@hotmail.co.uk]
delta delivers yet again! September 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
delta's brand new album follows along very nicely to the previous two
the album opens with the brilliant pop of "beleive again"...a huge immense opening with strings and a perfect choice for a single 10/10
"in this life" more rockier than a lot of deltas output...at times during the verses almost alanis morisette sounding but with a great chorus 9/10
"possessionless" again is a beautiful pop track with great lyrics about laying yourself wide open 10/10
"born to try" is a bit a mystery? from her first album and one of her biggest hits but this new version does nothing new and its a mystery why its here 7/10
"bare hands" is one of my favourites....very atmospheric..great lyrics...10/10
"god laughs" is a beautifully simple pop song apart parents breaking up...10/10
"you will only break my heart" is delta going all power woman...reminds me of a girls aloud type pop song..great vocals and a pleasant change of mood 9/10
"woman" sees delta on familiar territory...a big ballad about a woman who feels she ain't appreciated by her man 8/10
"brave face" is my favourite track on the album..it captivates you...all about new love and the feels that nothing can stop it...totally feel good 10/10
"i cant break it to my heart" a big delta ballad about waiting for your lover to come back and hoping they'll come back...great lyrics! 10/10
"one day" is another rockier strong woman track..ok 7/10
"angels in the room" is a largely acoustic track...pretty enough 7/10
the album does take a few listens to fully appreciate it..but then i think they all did
a great album by a great vocalist!
A bit of a mis-step for Ms Goodrem August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love Delta Goodrem's first two albums - but this one just seems to be so safe and samey, with everything just sounding so similar and frankly, dull. Where's the Electric Storm of this album, the Mistaken Identity, the Not Me, Not I?
A very big disappointment.
An enjoyable listen June 10, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ever since I heard "Born to Try" on Neighbours I have been an avid fan of Delta Goodrem's, her music inspiring me that piano players can do well in a music industry which seems to be dominated by guitars and band style instruments. Her previous 2 albums have been catchy, the lyrics meaningful and the melodies beautiful. Whilst "Delta" has been played repeatedly on my iTunes, I find myself slightly disappointed. The opening track of "Believe Again" is beautiful with it's use of strings to enhance the melodies, followed by the first single "In This Life" showing a more rockier side to Delta. However, after this, the pieces seem to dwindle and the only tracks that remotely stand out are "Brave Face", "The Guardian" and "Bare Hands" and the other songs seem to be just fillers for an album with little effort and time spent into perfecting them. Nevertheless, I think Delta can be praised for a refreshing approach to this album. She could have played it safe and stuck to piano based music but she experiments with orchestras, r&b beats and synthesizers which I think really show Delta's artistic variation. However, Delta has failed to include so many of her previous talents that make her music popular on this 3rd album and, whilst it is a new approach, perhaps she should stick to the music we all love hearing from her. Delta fans don't be put off by negative reviews; after all any music by Delta is good music in the eyes of fans and this eagerly awaited 3rd album doesn't overly dissapoint it's listeners.
Delta is back!!! :-) June 7, 2008 Her first album had some beautiful slow melodies and also her second album had quite the same but still different sound's... but this new album sound's more up-beat happy song's, I have listened to the song's and I like them, I can't wait to buy this Cd...
