Interesting blend of indie/post rock/jazz March 12, 2008
I read that Eveline's music was like a Wim Wenders soundtrack remixed by aliens! and it's true that no pigeonhole is apparent for this delicate blend of unique and obtuse material.
Reminiscent of early Soft Machine, with elements of PFM, Guided By Voices and Peter Gabriels early solo work, 'Waking Up Before Dawn' evolves from the equally impressive 1st album 'Happy Birthday, Eveline'.
Their heteroclite songwriting is not without a commercial element though. 'The Head and The River' and 'Cowboy Winter Prayer' with silky rich vocals will lull you into a certain comfort zone before 'bT90's' re-affirms your suspicions that Eveline will not tread any well-worn path to consumer acceptability.
A beautiful pearl amongst today's bland dumbculture output.
