5 out of 5 stars Buy this one!   November 23, 2008
To me this album is absolutely perfect! Go buy it! I'm an old fan of Metallica, but this has become the album I've listened to most the last 2 months.

This is not just Metallica returning to the 80's. This is in many ways a new Metallica! Some of it makes me think of the Load and Reload albums and The Black Album other parts are really thrashy and reminds me of Metallicas first 3 albums. The complexity of the guitar parts makes me think of ...And Justice for All.
But it is a new Metallica. This is the first Metallica album where Roberto Trujillo plays bas, and the bas sound is truely amazing!

If you love thrash, then you must love these tracks: All Nightmare Long, My apocalypse, That Was Just Your Life, Broken Beat and Scarred, The End of The Line...
If you fell in love with the Load/Reload Metallica, then you must love: Unforgiven III, The Day That Never Comes and The Judas Kiss.

The instrumental Suicide and Redemption sounds to me like it could have been the missing instrumental on The Black Album...

But this is an all new Metallica, that is obvious!

3 out of 5 stars hmmmm   November 23, 2008
well after a few good reports i finally brought the album and i will have to admit after 15 times listening to it i am still dissappointed, yes the raw musical power is back with some great gitar work and drum work, but and heres the massive but for me there are no songs on there that are truely great songs the lirics to me seemed to be totaly forgotten, indeed even on the 15th play i couldn't sing along to any songs (even while driving along with the music turned up) at least with st anger you had a couple of tracks that blew me away
don't know what went wrong but this ain't in my top 10 of metallica albums

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!   November 23, 2008
The Ninth studio album is awesome, a return to form for the band. If you love metallica and I mean love them, buy this album don't listen to the part time fans! this is a better direction from st anger, though st anger was good, This album draws you in from track 1 and don't let up.

4 out of 5 stars Metal Attraction   November 20, 2008
After the impenetrable 'St. Anger', this is something of a return to form. OK - it's back to the mainstream, but that's what most Metallica fans want. This album delivers in spades and all the songs clock in at between 5 and 8 minutes. It's classy, atmospheric, ballsy rock - the songs are good, the playing's tight, Hetfield's in fine voice, and all is well with the Metallica world. Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Death Magnetic - Awesome   November 18, 2008
This album demonstrates many of the influences Metallica have had over the years. Every song is quite different to the one before yet all remain very appealing and enjoyable.
It seems Metallica have rediscovered the right mix of melody, aggression and funk after their last few disappointing efforts. Some of the influences I can pick up on are: Iron Maiden, John 5, Slayer, Pantera and perhaps even a little bit of Marty Friedman. Favourite song? Cyanide

In summary, a brilliant album of very different tunes but all capturing the imagination of the listener. Thoroughly recommended - 5 Star!
