Amazon.co.uk Review This is the perfect way to hear Madonna: no album filler, just one hit after another. As a singles artist, she works wonders: quick, danceable tunes that are occasionally "controversial" but never set out to change the world (and don't). The Immaculate Collection begins with her earliest work ("Holiday", "Borderline") and matures from there ("Papa Don't Preach", "Like A Prayer"), ending in 1990. The highlight is the inclusion of "Justify My Love", a track recorded specifically for this compilation. One caveat: since Madonna is a true video artist, it'd be even nicer to "see" these songs. --Rob O'Connor

THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION July 24, 2008 Madonna scored some of the greatest songs in the 80's and many of them are placed on this compilation album...but these are remixed versions of the album versions. this is the greatest compelation album ever made...just a shame not all of her successful singles are captured here(whos that girl, true blue,oh father, over and over, and keep it together)but all the songs here are stunning. Holiday(the first album)-9/10 Lucky Star(the first album)-10/10 Borderline(the first album)-9/10 Like a virgin(like a virgin)-9/10 material girl(like a virgin)-9/10 Crazy for you(vision quest soundtrack)-8/10 Into The Groove(like a virgin)-10/10 Live to tell(true blue)-10/10 papa dont preach(true blue)-10/10 Open your heart(true blue)-10/10 La Isla Bonita(true blue)-10/10 Like A Prayer(like a prayer)-10/10-a great remix Express Yourself(like a prayer)-10/10-my favourite song of hers Cherish(like a prayer)-9/10 Vogue(im Breathless)-10/10-a masterclass song. Justify My Love(exclusive track)-10/10-feels like it should be on the Erotica album which came just over a year later...well its great enough to be!!! Rescue Me-10/10-another one that i think should have waited to be placed on the Erotica album but again, very good.
all in all a great compelation of hits from her career throughout the 80's to 1990. recommended to every fan:)
Please think before buying! July 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Madonna's music in the 1980s was excellent. But why people would be tricked to buy this is amazing. This came out right after I turned 12 years old and knew immediately not to buy it. Doesn't it seem to good to be true to have "Borderline", "Like A Virgin", "Live To Tell", "Into The Groove", "Like A Prayer", and "Vogue" (the latter song not even being a year old when this was released) all on one disc? When if it seems to too good to be true, it usually is. A friend of mine made a copy for me on cassette 5 years after the release. It was exactly what I thought: they were not the original versions. And to be more direct, they are not even the single versions. People have the tendency to say that this album has the single versions. Not true. All of these songs are re-mixed and edited. They stink to high heaven. That's right, all of them. You are better off saving money and buying her first 4 albums, Madonna (the first album), Like A Virgin, True Blue, and Like A Prayer. And if you care, you can even buy the I'm Breathless album from the Dick Tracy film featuring the overrated "Vogue" song. The greatest thing I love about the UK is that unlike America where I'm from, you guys have so much better taste is music. Your version of her best album and my favorite, Like A Virgin, even had "Into The Groove" added to it. That album alone is a greatest hits! I'm just shocked that people, even reviewers on this site, amazon.co.uk, actually like the I.C. album. Of course, in the US, everyone in there brother loves it (except me, maybe!) The saddest part is that Madonna has never released a double compilation with the original album or single versions of these songs. But she's not stupid. She knows people are still dumb enough to buy it! But where is her first killer single, "Everybody"? Many people don't even know it was her first single! She even should have minused "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me" and added "Angel" and "Dress You Up". But since those are new songs, people think they are really getting a treasure: a greatest hits and two new songs. Like we all know, everyone's a sucker one or more times in their life! Thanks for reading, Joseph
A good album from the Queen of Pop June 25, 2008 This album is not too bad, contains 17 great tracks. Allthough there is one let down, none of them are the proper single/album versions. They are all remix edits or extended versions for this compilation. All re-recored using Q sound, makes the tracks sound very different from the orginal, in some cases better (Live To Tell and Like A prayer). But just makes other tracks sound awful (Lucky Star, La Isla Bonita).
Personally I think if Madonna used all the proper single versions this album would have done much better and also if it included hits such as True Blue, Dress you up, Who's that girl and Causing A Commotion.
With rumours of Madge releasing a 25 year box set after she has finished releasing the singles from Hard Candy, hopefully all the great songs from here and one's that were not included here will be on that. More importantly hopefully it will feature the proper single versions also.
I still recommend this album to those who do not know much about madonna's earlier music. However I see this as a remix album rather than a greatest hits.
Utter dross - again! June 14, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Great! A whole collection of elevator muzak! She must be good! Best thing about this is the wordplay of the title. Otherwise, it's one massive yawn of musical anonymity! Any 5th-rate singer songwriter from Saturday night ITV can easily do better than this load of unoriginal dross!
The Best Collection of All Time... April 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
...But QSound makes it sound unfinished.
1. Holiday. 10/10 2. Lucky Star. 10/10 3. Borderline. 10/10 4. Like a Virgin. 10/10 5. Material Girl. 10/10 6. Crazy For You. 8/10 7. Into the Groove. 10/10 8. Live To Tell. 10/10 9. Papa Don't Preach. 10/10 10. Open Your Heart. 10/10 11. La Isla Bonita. 10/10 12. Like a Prayer. 10/10 13. Express Yourself. 10/10 14. Cherish. 8/10 15. Vogue. 10/10 16. Justify My Love. 10/10 17. OVERALL GRADE: 10/10 A very good collection of Madonna hits 82/90 but why they mixed it with QSound I don't know because it leaves it sounding unfinished.
