fantastic September 18, 2007 This has to be one of my favourite albums that I own. I wasnt a huge fan of her Careless Love album - contraversial statement I know :-)
Maddy has a fantastic voice, slightly more blusey on this album. Couple with the brilliant harmonica player William Gailson. This album is quite different from her others, but well worth the listen.
Favourite tracks are the Scorpian and the Frog and Heaven Help us all.
Brilliant!!

The sultry chanteuse and jazz harmonica man shared billing on this album. Its not as satisfying as her solo projects. There are a number of instrumentals which are rather dull in my opinion. ie his bits. Could have lived without some of these tracks. Madeleine's contributions are as always, impeccable though.
FUN'N'FROLICS February 8, 2006 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
"Got You On My Mind", featuring the guitar/harmonica talents of William Galison, has a looseness which is missing from "Careless Love"... Peyroux's voice doesn't shine quite us much but overall it's an earthier collection which exudes yet more charm. The fun('n'frolics) of William & Madeleine transcends easily to the listener, which allows you to forgive the muso element which manifests. Standout would be the duo's version of Lennon's 'Jealous Guy'...the harmonica work alone truly touches. The fact that what "makes" "Careless Love" even listenable (ie Madeleines vocals) isn't even present here, yet it remains breathtaking says it all and indicates which of the two I'd recommend. Blues Matters!
Sweet, soulful stuff February 25, 2005 91 out of 92 found this review helpful
I don't quite understand why Madeline Peyroux waited eight years and then put out two incredible CD's in the same month, but that's what she did. For some reason, Got You On My Mind hasn't gotten any publicity (maybe because it's on a small label)- but in my opinion, its every bit as good a CD as "Careless Love" "Got You" is a more unusual album in that it has some instrumental tracks (featuring Wiliam Gallison, who plays magnificent harmonica) and has a very varied programme of material. On the seven songs she sings, Madeline sounds more raw and natural on this CD- almost as if it was recorded live, although the audio qualty is wonderful. One could say it feels more "honest". My favorite track is "Got You On My Mind" which features Madeline and William singing together with a bluesy slide guitar and a terrific beat. Madeline sings especially beautifully on "This is Heaven to me". Strangely enough, she has a different version of this song on "Careless Love" but of the two I prefer this one. I also loved a version of "Flambee Montalbanese" which is a beautifully authentic take on a famous French musette tune. Wonderful arrangement. This CD definitely takes you on a journey. Bon Voyage!
