Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
So long, tatty Warped Tour T-shirt, goodbye day-glo pedal pushers: Love Angel Music Baby, the debut solo album from No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, finds this former ska-punk tomboy embracing `80s electro-pop, digital R&B, and the glamorous lifestyle of the international jetsetter. Laden with special guests (Andre 3000, Dr Dre, New Order), name-dropping the likes of Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, and packed with guilt-free references to conspicuous consumption, tracks like "Luxurious"--a cut of velvety G-Funk that sees Gwen cooing "Champagne kisses/ Hold me in your lap of luxury"--may well be an instant turn-off to fans more familiar with Gwen's punk-rock roots. Luckily, there's some fine pop crossover moments here that should pretty much appeal across the board: "Hollaback Girl" finds Gwen riding a Neptunes beat that's as minimal as anything in their oeuvre, spare boom-crash percussion and wisps of acoustic guitar undercut by floor-shaking bass whoomp, while "Rich Girl" featuring Eve, repaying the favour for 2002's "Let Me Blow Your Mind", raids Fiddler On The Roof and comes out with a great pop hook. As an album, it's not totally devoid of filler, but Love Angel Music Baby will break Gwen to a whole new fanbase, and deservedly so.--Louis Pattison

I was really dissapointed with this album. I loved the first three songs (which is why i bought it) but the rest were just really annoying sort of nu rave badly written 80s pop

i love the fist few songs, but it just does my head in after a while, its like she is trying to fill space in the album.

4 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars-Gwen really wanted a mix salad on her dinner table   July 5, 2007

Gwen took a lot of different steps to come up with this album. It's almost like a set of singles done in different genres ranging from heavy techno to old school 80's ballads. Some believe that having that much collaboration might be over produced, but each producer brought a different story to this album. The plus for me was the old school 80's vibe she applied into it.

Her first single `What You Waiting For?' was a good start in introducing her album. `Rich Girl' is good track working back with her friend Eve and the help of Dr. Dre made this a hit. `Hollaback Girl' with it's "Micky Vibe" is a good hit that was on heavy rotation on the radio stations, the Neptunes was all over that track. `Cool,' is slower than the others, and the chorus is really nice and its very 80'ish vibe. `Bubble Pop Electric' was surely one Weird song but it came together due to the collabo with Andre. This track took me about 5 listens to get into. It's grows on you with its weird rhythms and funny lyrics. `Luxurious' has an R&B vibe to it that sounds nice. `Harajuku Girls' is obviously all Madonna with a Chinese twist. `Crash' is very 80ish and tolerable for those who might not be into it. `The Real Thing' is even more 80'ish and slightly enjoyable. `Serious' I like because it starts with the string sound and Gwen also put an 80's sound to it. `Danger Zone' this song is more towards the rock side which I don't listen to that much but the chorus is nice. `Long Way to Go,' I love because of Andre 3000 you can tell he produced this song. Its rhythms and beats are all what he stands for and the two artists harmonize pretty well on this track. Andre does his thing on the piano in there with its funky rhythm that sounds like its straight out of the Speakerboxx album.

I would say that this album deserves to be heard. If you're into all types of music and also a loyal No Doubt and Gwen Stefani fan, then you should get into this album. If people don't like it, I just think it's because they are looking for something that they've already heard before and trust me, repetition is usually a disappointment.

I couldn't stand this and had to turn off the CD in disgust. I'm glad I didn't pay a lot for it - warning: buy this from one of the cheaper sellers here ! You'll be glad you did.
