Should receive more recognition May 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First saw Seth Lakeman on Channel Five's "My Music". Thought he sounded great and not too folky. I bought Freedom Fields CD and thought it was excellent. Found out that he was gigging in Peterborough where I live so went with the wife to see him live. Thought he was excellent. The wife rated him 6 out of 10. Her tastes are West Life and Wet Wet Wet. I usually listen to bands like Coldplay, U2, The Doors, The Killers, The Strokes, Radio Head, REM, Take That etc but I like a song to tell a good story which Seth pulls off in his song writing. The only downside (LIVE)is his guitar playing brother in the band who doesn't look the part. He looked too wooden and is riding on his brother's success. I would recommend you buy this CD and go see Seth live. The crowd is so diverse with all ages. Don't worry about the odd looking folky people who can't dance.
A great modern folk talent April 26, 2008 Same as E.T below, I saw Seth last year at the Princess Pavillion in Falmouth. He is an outstanding talent and a bundle of energy on stage.
This album is a real classic, I love every song.
My only fear, how he's made it, is that we won't see him in Cornwall for another 25 years (if Steeleye Span or Ian Anderson are anything to go by).
Lady of the Sea is by far the best. April 21, 2008 I really like this album. Only one bad point really, it gets a bit repetative after a few songs. The most different and 'prick-your-ears-up' track is Lady of The Sea which I utterly love. Good music for your car or in the background while you work. I am going to see him live this week, should be good!
Hope he's coming back to Cornwall soon! January 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I saw a tiny clip of this on TV earlier this year and scoured everywhere to find it! With a voice this full of emotion and passionate, masterfull fiddle playing, it makes your skin tingle, and live it just gets better. I saw him play at the Falmouth festival in August ~ 'blown away' just doesn't do the feeling justice. I can't wait for the next gig down our way!
Excellent Stuff!!! November 12, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Who said that British Folk music was all portly gentlemen sporting beige tank tops singing in obscure clubs whilst having a finger stuck firmly in one ear. Seth Lakeman rocks and plays a mean fiddle too. He's just a bit cute as well !!!! I'm only sorry that I heard of him only recently (my bad) and just missed his tour. I will most definitely be making up for that ommission as soon as I can. Great CD !!!
