| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review "I'm gonna sing mostly new songs tonight," Neil Young tells the rapt Massey Hall audience, "...I've written so many new ones that I can't think of anything else to do with them other than sing 'em." He steps to the mic unadorned, distant from CSNY's rippled harmonies or Crazy Horse's yowl, hypnotically nailing 17 tracks on this unreleased 1971 solo set. You hear him tower at vocal heights on the chorus for "Old Man" (then a debuted, brand-new song) and name-check Canada on "Journey to the Past" and North Ontario on "Helpless," much to the Toronto crowd's delight. The sound is impeccable, and the closeness to Young in this spare setting exhilarates--especially his vocal quavering in the high registers, his intricate guitar work, and an overall vibe that exceeds description. And the DVD: Here you catch Young in tightly framed, starkly-lit shots, flourishing in the early years of an unparalleled rock career. Not only that, you get commentary from 1997, a rare window on how Young thinks, how he speaks, his humor. --Andrew Bartlett

DVD is NTSC November 6, 2008 The DVD is in NTSC format, so it will play only on a player which is NTSC-compatible.
The DVD is NOT Massey Hall folks!!! September 3, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
i ain't gonna review the concert...needless to say it is a must-have [if very widely bootlegged] recording. Five stars most certainly. At least 2 stars deducted [and believe me it would be more, but I cannot reduce the release to a 2 star review], for the outright swindle perpertrated by Neil his management and Warners for implying that the concert footage is from Massey Hall...coz it ain't!! It was actually taken from a Dutch TV documentary fimed at Stratford [USA] about a week later...hence the dubious technique of the reel-to-reel footage [coz those songs weren't filmed at Stratford...]
Incredible Performance June 16, 2008 I'll be going to see Young live in a couple of weeks so I watched the DVD over the weekend to see what he was like back in his heyday.
The music in this live show is magnificent. Songs like "Old Man" that have long been regarded as classics are heard here for the first time. Young says that he'll sing mostly new songs as he's writing so many. In 2008 though we are completely familiar with all the songs. What a rush it must have been to have been in Massey Hall that night to see Young in his performing and songwriting prime.
The DVD is a bit of a mixed bag. Mostly footage of the concert with some "home movie" type scenes of Young on his ranch thrown in.
But the music is unbelievably good.
Just want to say March 10, 2008 Other people here will very eloquently give you a full review of this, but I felt I had to say; the version of helpless included here is just jaw-droppingly good, worth every penny alone.
Better than Harvest November 14, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It knocks spots off Harvest - this is the album that should have been released in 1972. For any Young follower this is a must have, & will already have. The fact that most of the songs are unknown by the audience adds an extra dimension. Has his voice ever sounded this good. Dlving into the world of shakey it does'nt get much better than this. Roll on the archives!!!
