I first came across Scott MAtthew from his work on the Shortbus soundtrack. I was eagerly awaiting the release of his first album (which you have been able to buy as an MP3 download for a while now), and I wasn't disappointed.
At first I was a bit challenged by the very different style of arrangement on this album compared to the tracks from Shortbus, however two listens and I was hooked. His voice is hauntingly beautiful, almost like a wounded Bowie. Tracks such as Balladear and Amputee are like loving knives to the heart, while Abandoned (my personal favorite) should make even the most stoney faced listener fight back the tears.
A sweet sadness indeed, buy it now!
