Masterwork November 1, 2008 An epic retrospective of the last decade of dance music. Highly recommeded for any fan of dance music.
Ya Names Not Down, Ya Not Comin In September 25, 2008 I own all of the mash up mixes so far and due to my clubbing days beginning in the early to mid 90's was eagerly awaiting this release and it doesn't disappoint.
CD 1 is generally on a more housey tip with tracks spreading the years including early faves such by 808 State and Altern 8 - "Watch ya bass bins I'm tellin ya" through my fave house track off all time by The Nightcrawlers up to "Lazy" by X-Press 2, though how this is old skool I don't know ?
Other classics by Shades of Rhythm - "Everytime I see her, everytime I see the girllllll", FPI Project and Robin S bring back many memories of great club nights.
CD 2 for me increases the BPM with its mixture of early dance tracks including "Injected with a Poison" by Praga Khan, the piano heaven of "Feel Real Good" by Manix into the novelty madness of "Trip to Trumpton" by Urban Hype and "Sesame Street" by Smart E's then early drum & bass thumpers including the well known "Valley of the Shadows" by Origin Unknown. Again a couple of acappellas from "not" old skool tracks are used ?
Even if you weren't around or into this era of music back in the day it is an excellent representation of some of the big tracks, some more commercial than others. A few of the mixes are indeed spliced together well but I didn't just buy this for the "cut up" more for the selection of music, yes I own pretty much all of these but its nice to have a comp with them all mixed up on.
Reminisce...
Classic Mash Up September 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you remember the early 90's house hits then you'll understand this.
I love the mash up idea, and the Cut Up boys have off to a tee, this compilation is no exception, brings back memories of times that I'll never forget. Yes some people say mashup is can be overcomplicated and a miss match, but the cut up boys know what they are doing ;)
Basically the 1st cd is a mix up of the earlier 89-91 sound with a few extra surprises thrown in.
The second CD is the 91-95 in perfect bleep and break beat perfection.
If you like the mashup conception, and remember the good times when house was in it's infancy you love this, believe me!
Go Buy it, you wont be disappointed.
Better than the ratings would suggest September 6, 2008 This is pretty well mixed, although it's the first mash up CD I've listened to (I went off dance music in the late 90's when it turned to junk). I bought this purely because of the 'old skool' title, as I love the old tunes. If you loved the big club tunes from the late 80's to the mid 90's you'll love this. Every track will have you shouting 'TUUUUUUUUUUUNE'.
One review said 'people will not know most of the tracks'....you have to be kidding! Pretty much every tune was recognisable to those of us that partied hard back in the day, although there's a fair range of styles, they're mixed pretty well.
I'm VERY happy with this CD and no doubt it'll be a bit hit at my New Years party this year, what with all the other 30 somethings that will be there.
ANOTHER MASTERPIECE September 4, 2008 PLEASE IGNORE ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON THIS IF YOU ARE OVER 16YRS OLD YOU WILL LOVE THIS. THE TRACKS ARE BLENDED SUPERBLY AS ALWAYS FROM THE CUT UP BOYS.
I HAVE ALL THE MASH UP SERIES & THEY KEEP GETTING BETTER & BETTER.
PLEASE MOS MORE MASH UPS MORE CUT UP BOYS.
