Excellent CD a must have for any ID fan November 19, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the best CD that Il Divo has ever done. Some of the tracks such as "Power of Love, La Promessa, L'alba Del Mondo are just excellent. Their cover of the song Hallelujah there is no words to describe it, simply excellent comes to mind. The song choice on the album is very diverse. It is a must have CD for any fan.
Very good, but could use a little oomph! November 17, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have just bought this today, and having listened to it, I think it is a really good ablbum, well worth buying. If there were some more songs with a bit more oomph, such as Isobel and some of their other previous songs, I would have given this album 5 stars. However, that aside it is a great album! Go buy it!
Absolutely Devine November 15, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Make sure gou've got a respectable pair of loudspeakers, a strong and clear amplifier, dim the lights, have a drink and prepair for a really great audio experience ! Absolutly devine ! Great songs !
Better than their last album... but then that wouldn't be hard! November 15, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
While "The Promise" is better than Il Divo's last album "Siempre", it's still not great. Once you play it through a couple of times, all the songs seem to blend together and there is a boring similarity and a sad lack of original songs. Can these guys actually write songs that are good enough for them to record themselves? Or, as the press often says, are they really just cardboard cut-outs with nice voices and pretty faces??
It seems to be an awkward split of Il Divo standard "take a pop song and belt it out with an operatic twist" and very classical pieces. Oddly, the more classical choices like "Adagio" and "La Promessa" actually seem to work better for them than the awful Spanish "Popera" versions of "The Winner Takes It All" and "The Power of Love", both of which are truly dire. Maybe Il Divo should head off town the classical path as it's where they seem to sound the best.
As the majority of them say they came from the "classical world" you have to wonder if this is a "farewell album" before they head back to their former lives. And honestly... you have to hope so!!
OUTSTANDING!!! November 14, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Well the "Promise " has been fulfilled! Moved to tears on 3 tracks in particular, La Promessa, L'Alba del Mondo (WOW!) and Enamerado. Just read some reviews on the standard CD and I can't beleive what I'm reading! How can anyone say this album is a disappointment? My only fear was that I hated the original Frankie Goes to Hollywood but the guys managed to convince me! I also read someone say that the guys had done no "upbeat" numbers...? Well forgive me - but I love the romance and the sheer joy of hearing these guys voices and talent and don't need anything else but just to listen to everyday music in a TOTALLY different light! Can't WAIT for the tour!
