Awesome! July 27, 2010 Pedro Pablo Perez Garcia (Madrid, Spain) Sometimes I re-bought a record that I love because its bad sound, thinking on the benefits of the remasters. And I felt disappointed because those times I felt the original sound was being killed.
This new remastered "One Step Beyond" sounds louder, cleaner, better... simply amazing!. And the extras and bonus tracks are awesome too: different magnificent version of the great "Bed & Breakfast man", two of "My Girl"... few times in the last ten years felt so excited with a new record. Well, it's and old one, but totally new in my ears.
That's it.
Madness one step beyound April 26, 2010 Michael Ponsford (uk) This is Madness first album and if i can remember it came out 1979 just after Suggs, Woody, Chrisy boy and the rest of Madness left North London invaders. I was only 10 years old when they brought the album out and as soon as i got my pocket money i hopped on the bus with some friends went into town and brought the vynal.
Then just before going back home my friends took me in to a hair dressers to get my first skinhead hair cut (a number 3 i had) and when i got home my mum went off her head and thus i became a skinhead (but not a racist skinhaed). The jamaicans invented Ska, Reggae, Trojan Reggae, 2Tone and the skinhead culture back in 1969 so the rest is history, i've been a skinhead ever since even 30 years on i've never change.
The song are one step beyond, bed and brakfast man, mummies boy, Tarzans nuts, and more i can't remember them all. I have all of Madness cd's all with their earlyer songs on, i am a big fan i think once you get in to 2Tone, Ska and Trojan Reggae you never leave it so i'd say once a Madness fan always a Madness fan.
2Tone is up beat Ska, Ska is up beat Reggae the Trojan part is a record lable if some of you don't know. i'd recomend it to all who love Ska and 2tone and if your just getting into the music this is probably a better album to listern to as all the songs on this one step beyond album are awesome, another 2Tone band to look out for is The Specials like Madness they are just as awesome.
A fantastic classic album reduced to a digital nightmare. February 24, 2010 Dee Geedee (London) 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this the other day and couldn't wait to get it playing in the car. To be honest, I was horrified by the sound. It's very over-compressed, but also the high top end was harsh, screechy and very unpleasant (the reverbs have turned into a horrible shrill whistle). Coupled with a lack of low end weight and mid range clarity, the whole experience was a massive let down. I've since listened at home and in my studio and all my fears were confirmed. The whole thing sounds like it's been through a load of plug-ins all set to 11. Such a shame that such a fantastic album has been reduced to this.
