Beautiful July 13, 2010 Alex Callaghan This musical is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's greatest ever. He had created a beautiful score with compelling lyrics by Glenn Slater. A must for any musical lover, this musical will truly show you that indeed, love never dies. A masterpiece of a musical.
Great CD June 12, 2010 E. Elliott (UK) We were one of the first to go and see the musical and once you leave the theatre there are certain songs that will just stick in your head. Great melodies that remind you of some classic Phantom of the Opera songs. Love it and am trying to find more people to take to the show! Bx
Mostly Very Good June 10, 2010 N. Gosney (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think most reviewers have got this right. Most importantly, you get half-a-dozen cracking songs and some typical flowing ALW melodies.
You also get a few fluffy music hall-style songs appropriate to the Edwardian era.
And you get 'The Beauty Underneath', which certainly isn't.
Arguably a good song in its own right. But although electric lighting was becoming commonplace in 1907, I'm pretty sure the electric bass wasn't.
You also get some semi-narrative numbers which are integral to the stageshow storyline but not great in isolation.
Is it as good as Phantom 1? Probably not quite - but still very good.
Overall, then, worth buying for the standout songs alone.
Finally, is it worth seeing the stageshow? Definitely yes. (And, incidentally, Madame Giry has - fortunately - toned down her vairy Frrrench accent!).
Fantastic cd on second listening! May 28, 2010 Ms. L. J. Riding (Bridgend) Initial thoughts on listening to the cd - I wasn't overly impressed. However when listening to the cd the second time I completely changed my mind! Similar music repeats itself throughout the story so you find youself singing along! Thoroughly looking forward to seeing the theatre performance in June now!
Andrew's done it again! May 25, 2010 C. J. Hilliard (Brighton UK) Andrew Lloyd-Webber has done it again. I have seen "Love Never Dies" four times, and last time I memerged from the theatre in floods, together with coach loads of people, some of them handicapped, who were in a similar state.
The musical was just a perfect length and the songs were absolutely glorious. One felt it was a Beauty and the Beast sequel to Phantom, and so wanted the two to be properly reconciled.
I saw Sunset Boulevard twelve times, and this show looks like being on a level with that. I dread Sierra Bogess losing her voice, she is outstanding, so too are the original and the understudy Phantoms.
Carolyn Hilliard.
