Very good but not great. May 4, 2010 Jimmy Langlor (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are some very good songs on here indeed and I love the idea of the album. However, there are enough filler tracks to make this album boring in places. Not least the Muse ripp off 'Glitter Freeze (feat Mark E Smith)' which if nothing else is just tedious.
Still, you can't argue with Superfast Jellyfish, To Binge and Stlyo. Great tunes!
Perfection is impossible when catering for all. But Plastic Beach isn't far off. April 26, 2010 Mr. Alexander J. Gibbons (Northamptonshire, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this, but first things first this album is magnificent. The music industry has needed this kind of forward thinking shake-up for quite some time. It has something for everyone, soaring and diving through genre boundaries relentlessly.
The extras for the experience edition are really only for hardcore fans. I guess only the said fans will purchase this edition anyway though. As a long time Gorillaz follower, I could not be happier with this purchase.
The highlight of the extras is the 'Making Of' DVD which gives a great insight into the production of the album. If you want a fantastic album, buy the normal edition. Anything more, this is your boy.
Point Nemo April 23, 2010 M. Levi Is Plastic Beach as good as their last two albums. Its got that awesome subliminal jazzy beachy sound with a few suprises thrown in. Gorillaz is like a fine wine, gets better with age.
It's not Demon Days! April 16, 2010 Philip Turton (UK) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's not Demon Days. I could stop there, because that sums it up. There's lot's of inventiveness and classic Gorrillaz tricks but it's more ethereal than the last effort and just lacks the sheer tunes of Demon Days. If you're buying for the first time, don't start here. If you're a fan, you'll buy it anyway. Incidentally this version has some very nice gizmos and tricks with it, including access to an exclusive web-experience - the cd has a card giving you an access code to the experience - due to close in 2011.
Plastic Beach Experience edition April 12, 2010 Rogan Keple (Wales) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
The third full album to be released, by Gorrilaz (other than first e.p and b-sides). Plastic Beach is different to what I expected to hear from Gorrilaz it appears they've gone more for the hip hop and rap angle, which on the early albums they kept to a softly, softly approach. Which for me makes the album difficult to ease into, infact its not until the 7th track that the album starts to feel Gorrilaz. Fails again for track 15 titled cloud of unknowing which is so cheezy its an instant skip.
All in all the album is worth a listen it has its absorbing complexities (like previous albums), and if like me you are waree of hip hop you may favour the seconed half.
The experiance edition features some great artwork on the disc slips, which are tempting to frame. Online content is both fun and engaging and adds a certain quirkiness to the package. Also included is a dvd which makes experience edition good value for money.
