Get it into your head! May 16, 2010 Tina (UK) Music that gets into your head and stays there (in a good way). Intelligent words spoken over infectious electro beats. Commentary on the state of the UK, and encouragement to 'get better' and take responsibility in society. Have a listen!
Excellent Follow Up to Angles! April 21, 2010 L. Reid (Ayshire UK) After being a big fan of Angles (their previous album) I was pleasantly surprised that they could keep up the high standard. Saw them in the Classic Grand in Glasgow a week after purchasing the album and they were amazing!!
If you can, buy this album and go and see them - you will not be disappointed!
Bigger and better yet still with a soul April 10, 2010 Mr. Gareth A. Brinkworth (London, UK) Regardless of what others have said I feel the increased ambition and sophistication in the music here is definitely a step up for the pair. Whilst the second half tends to lose it's way somewhat as this new state of being is grown into, the first half is amongst the most exhilirating, positive and inventive music to come from these shores in a long while. Swirling synths and PHAT beats sound equally amazing through my headphones or on a dance floor and the words are heartfelt and, in today's increasingly lowest common denominator fuelled art, very, very necessary. Buy this and play it to your friends.
The Logic of Chance April 8, 2010 T. Haistead-Stockwell (Norfolk, England) When I first listend to this album all the way through, I just wasn't blown away by it like I was with their first album (Angles). The new album I feel takes a step backwards for both of them... in terms of lyrics and Dan Le Sac's beats. They seem too easy and lacking a bit of punch and have done nothing different or innovative apart from being more overt politically than last time. I think if they'd have released this album first they wouldn't have been given a chance to release another. To hear examples of what I mean by the slacking effort, listen to either 'Cauliflower', 'Great Britain' and a song that could be brilliant; 'Five Minutes' but is ruined by the production, as you can hardly hear a word Pip says.
Saying all this though, there are some good songs, but they're those sort of songs that have to grow on you... 'Last Train Home', 'Stake A Claim' and 'Get Better'. My favourite out of those being the first of the three, as it gives a sort of old school hip-hop vibe, which I like a lot.
I think this might be one of those occasions where this album sounds much better on stage, I have seen them 3 times now and they are a fantastic group live, I'm yet to see them though since this album and as a big (slightly disappointed) fan I will definitely go to see them in the near future.
3 stars then... I believe 2 stars would be for an album you can just about listen to without wanting to rip off your ears. So 3 stars is being able to listen to it, but commiserate slightly about how good this album should/could have been.
logical.........captain! April 7, 2010 Mr. A. G. Bond (Newcastle,UK.) In my local venacular its "sweet!" in anyone else's its frickin' cool! Pip is lyrically brilliant and Dan's beats are a little more heavy than last time. This is what you need in your life- Heavy beats with eloquent street wise advice. Just buy this and look forward to not being disappointed!
