Calm...Peace...Serenity - it's all here October 28, 2008 I'd heard for a very long time that plainsong / Gregorian chants were supposed to have extremely relaxing qualities, but only very recently bought this CD to see (hear!) for myself. I was extremely impressed - incredibly calming and restful. The pace of this type of music almost seems hard wired into our chill-out zone. I can only say I am very happy indeed with the CD - a pleasure to listen to: breath slowly and regularly and let yourself be calmed
Capturing a time when Gregorian Chant was the musical glory of of the Church January 27, 2008 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a must for lovers of Gregorian Chant, listen to the Te Deum, is not one's heart transported to heaven by the chant? And,the hymns, the tantum ergo, and the salutaris hostia and the salve regina. Wonderful, one's spirit is moved unto a sober inebriation
A great find... July 28, 2002 37 out of 37 found this review helpful
Salve Regina is a wonderful recording of the monks of that ancient abbey at Clervaux in France. Originally made in 1957, the recording is nonetheless crystal clear with the odd organ stop noise adding to its 1950s authenticity. As for the chants themselves, we find a mix of some of the most famous hymns of Catholic worship (Tantum Ergo and O Salutaris, Adoro Te as well as the anthem Salve Regina all sung to the Tonus Monasticus)and the chants used for special occasions such as Lauda Sion Salvatorem, traditionally used for The Feast of Corpus Christi. My favourite chant in the collection is O Sacrum Convivium - its very short but very beautiful.
