Late night radio magic August 16, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've been a fan of all things Jazzanova for around 6 years and buy anything that is remotely associated with them. Why? Because they constantly evolve and do not restrict themselves to one specific genre, which is why you can never grow tired of them. Many reviewers label them lazily as 'broken beat' or 'nu jazz' but there's so much more to their act than that. As well as their own productions such as their remix compilations (essentials for any broad minded dance music fan) and the fantastic 'In Between' they're just as well known for their DJ sets, which is what they tend to focus on more these days.
The 'Broadcasting' mix CD gives us a taste of their long running late night Berlin DJ radio show and while the broken beats and the nu jazz are there, you get so much more as well. Capitol A brings to the mix some groovy hip hop, there's old school soul (Norman Weeks) plus the superb reggae-ish 'No memory of time' by Joe Dukie.
Though generally downtempo and great to wind down to, it's certainly a danceable mix too. That's the beauty of Jazzanova. The way they mix up the styles and keep things sounding so up to date is why they're up there in my opinion as one of the best(if not THE best) dance acts of the last 10 years.
