a tree for people to share April 26, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
one of the first lps to add a bit of kudos to the acid jazz canon and released at a time when my mates were listening to some truly dreadful 'britpop' (anybody remember Cud?)and horrible Seattle rock, soul-less musick and groups with names like Ned's atomic dustbin ha ha ha! The problem with Mother Earth was that you, as a listener, had to have a bit of musical savvy , have a bit of a background rather than being 17 years old and led by the reigns to the river to drink......... Certainly at the time acid jazz was never really a great album label (Emperor's New Clothes, Corduroy, BNH first album, JTQ aside!)but the people tree was a fab one, I've owned it three times, given it to mates to listen to and never got it back. So here we go again, and this time the lp is joined by those bsides and ep numbers from Grow your own to Mr Freedom, all the bonus bonuses. Top tunes Saturation 70, apple green and now ladies and gentlemen, to warlocks of bakersfield funky little bside which I hope will appear in unedited glory, check the bass. The Mother Earth albums either side of this release never quite hit the nails on the head but this one was brillo. And good one acerecords (BGP) for the reissue jobby. Rumours abound(ed) that Mother Earth had reformed to record a new album, but as yet nowt!!!! buy this magicacornbean and it will grow into a mighty oak my friend.
