holy ghost, batman! September 30, 2008
I would like to echo all the other reviews and thank bbc radio's jazz on 3 for the tip off. i was humbled by the experience and at the price almost guilty to pay so little for such a work of art.

When i chanced on this box set i couldnt believe my eyes.I returned twice to the shop to confirm what i had seen then bought it quickly.
The quality of this document is amazing, the music inside breathtaking, the value in all aspect incredible.
Do yourself a favour.Buy!

I almost can't play the record, can't even open the box without getting emotional.
Ayler's music is too beautiful, too simple for most , his life too complex and ultimately sad. But now that we have this gorgeous artefact it seems less so. The flower for Albert is a lovely touch, the book briliant, the photos charming, but nothing can equal that ocean wide sound, the soul of jazz as reaches back across continents and ages. This is not easy listening, but it is probably the most rewarding set of recordings I own. Too beautiful.

I was fortunate to be bought this as a birthday present (thanks ellie). I'm not going to add anything to what the other reviewers have said, not for lack of things to say, but because this is the most sublime, in the truest sense of the word, release I've ever come across and I don't really feel compfortable attempting to analyse such a magnificant set.
If you're only going to get one jazz release for your collection, make sure it's "Holy Ghost".

The Albert Ayler discography was up to now not the most vast and now we are treated to over seven hours of new music by the man. The quality of this issue is simply stunning, from the box itself, the music and the outstanding 200 page book to accompany the set. There are so many highlights the 1962 session with Cecil Taylor, the 1968 session with Pharoah Sanders, the recording from John Coltrane's funeral to name but three. For all fans of the "New Thing" this is essential. There are so many highlights in this set that it takes your breath away. Revenant Records deserve the highest praise for the quality of this set. This really is the most essential purchase!!
