1 out of 5 stars Doesn't put me 'In The Mood' at all.........   February 7, 2006

In contrast to the previous reviewer on this page, unfortunately I have to say how disappointed I was with this collection. Before I launch into my reasons, firstly I must just say that I am writing this review as a general music fan with my own observations regarding this recording, rather than pretending to be an authority on the legend that is Glenn Miller.
My suspicions with this recording were raised within the opening few bars of the first track 'In The Mood', which is obviously in stereo. Since the cream of Miller's recordings were made around 1940 (some 15 years before stereo recordings were being introduced) I have to start here by questioning the authenticity of at least some of the recordings on this CD. And if track 1 doesn't make you suspicious, skip forward to track 4 and we are presented with a very clumsy and lacklustre introduction to 'Chattanooga Choo Choo'. If this really is Glenn Miller, I can only presume that he was either having an extremely bad day when it was being recorded, or it was recorded after he had already died. There are none of the expected vocals on this track either.
Since there are no sleeve notes, it is difficult to guess the original sources of these recordings. For example, tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 15, 16, 17 and 18 are cleaner and obviously much more recent recordings, whereas the tracks in the middle are a mixture of live and badly dubbed from disc cuts complete with a nice selection of pops, bangs and surface noise. No digital remastering here!!! However, these few tracks do at least sound more like the Glenn Miller that I was expecting, even if they have managed to chop the leading edge off of the first note on some of the tracks.
At the end of the day, you pays your money..... but I would rather invest in an authentic full priced remastered original than this rather questionable hotch-potch of songs from the equally questionable TKO licensing.
If you were considering purchasing a Glenn Miller CD, my advice would be for you to save up for a bit longer and buy a better compilation that you are likely to play more than once. This is the sort of CD that I would expect to get free with the Sunday paper and still be disappointed with. As I said at the outset, I am no Miller expert and to be fair this is a budget priced CD, but I know what I like, and I don't like this!

5 out of 5 stars ALL THE CLASSICS IN GOOD SOUND QUALITY!   July 31, 2002

All the standards you'd expect to find on a Glen Miller best of album 'In The Mood', 'Moonlight Serenade' etc.

This is music that still sounds as great today as it did then. ]
This CD is in good sound quality and well recommended.
