Dissapointing - espiecially for Terry November 1, 2002 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
Ive written a review for 'What color is Love' - trust me I'm a big fan - but this album just does'nt work for me.The flow is awful and the track selection leaves a lot to be desired. I think thet this is certainly not the 'Essential Terry Callier' Try instead the classic 'What colour is love', 'Timepiece', and 'Alive'. - and while your at it - GO SEE HIM PERFORM LIVE
For my opening line... January 29, 2002 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Of modest external design, Callier's 'Essential, the Very Best of,' folds out to present us with a warm and welcoming sleeve note showing an euphoric Callier on guitar on a warm autumnal red glow. Its opening sentence: 'If you look up the word soul in the dictionary, it is 1. A spiritual part of a human being; person...' implies a warmth and richness of music one would associate with Stevie Wonder. The term 'Essential (collection)' is ussually approached with a degree of hesitation; the mere thought of one artists best works collected as one being nothing but a dream. However, not so with this. Callier's collection is a rich in soul and voice applying certain charms associated only with the man himself. Ordianry Joe sets the standard high but the quality remains constant throughout offering the listener, should they percivere (and by jove they should) an album that will sooth the mind, body and soul for an evening of exquisite soul. 5/5

The rarest moment in time this album. So warm, beautiful and soulful, Terry Callier's voice and sounds are what lazy summer evenings are all about. A gentle man with an angel's voice.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT March 3, 2000 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
You should not be without this CD in your collection. This man is special, lyrics and vocals ooze feeling. Seeing this man in concert is a humbling experience.
