Amazon.co.uk Review It's hard to believe but this is the only Las Vegas recording in Nat King Cole's large discography. Recorded at the glitzy Sands Casino in 1960, during the heyday of Sinatra and the Rat Pack, Cole's elegant tenor voice, rather than his brilliant Earl Hines inspired piano playing, was the focus at this stage of his career. As a pop singer, Cole had the audience in the palm of his hand like no other entertainer of his era, save for the Chairman of the Board. With a big band arranged by Dave Cavanaugh, Cole belts out some hip renditions of well-worn standards like "The Surrey With the Fringe On Top" and "I Wish You Love", and the haunting "Miss Otis Regrets (She's Unable to Lunch Today)". Included for the first time in this crystal clear, digitally-remastered set are several bonus tracks. Duke Ellington's "In A Mellotone" is a rare instrumental from 1959 of the Ducal classic. "Whatcha' Gonna Do" and the sarcastically grooving "Mr Cole Won't Rock and Roll" are the other two additions added to this swinging live date from this monarch of American music. --Eugene Holley, Jr, Amazon.com

A great live set. October 8, 2003 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful cd. The sound quality is excellent and the anouncement at the beginning along with the uniterupted play of the cd transports you to the sands hotel, January 1960. Nat is on top form, really swinging. One of the highlights for me is his rendition of 'I wish you love', where he delivers a master class in phrasing and balladering. I think these silly Pop Idol kids should be forced to listen to this (along with 50's Ella and Frank) before they grace our TV screens! This set also features Nat at the piano, as he plays 'Where or When'. It's a shame that so many people do not realise that he was one of the great Jazz pianists of all time. Its hard to fault this cd and should be in the collection of any Nat King Cole fan, though it is simply enjoyable enough to be in anyones!
