Its aight....but no more... March 23, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
A lot of talk about this album because of Glasper's work for Mos Def, who is very generous in his contribution to the liner notes of this album. But in fact this album was downright disappointing in terms of incorporating anything meaningful from hip hop into the increasingly stagnant jazz medium. There is a small bit in the J Dilla tribute, which is the best part of the album and all too short. Then it falls back into normal mode, which is competent but hmmm... nothing that will rock your world or make you convinced that you laid down your money for an album which took you too a place you hadn't been before.
The best I can say about this album is that it hints that Glasper has more to offer. But he needs to actually display some moxie and GO THERE instead of faffing about with the head-it-all-before stuff.
pure excellence February 18, 2008 this really is an amazing album ,if their is any justice in the world this would be a million seller . everything is in proportion & fresh .he may have peaked to early . it's great to think just like the universe jazz is still expanding.
