What attracted me to this cd was primarily the fact that guys like eivind aarset, bugge wesseltoft, nils petter molvaer & jan bang are all contributing (sadly molvaer is only on one track & it's one of the weakest on offer!) greatly on it. In fact Wesseltoft's accompaniement to Youssef's oud playing is at times majestic, but this cd really comes to life with the interplay of the oud & the double bass which is quite breathtaking. Of course, aarset's individual guitar style is all over the music too, but the main selling point of this disc has to be the fact that it is so genre-defying & therefore easily blends together traditional arabic, norwegian jazz & european dance culture all in one go. And i have yet to mention Youssef's amazing vocals...
