One of the hippest albums in my collection June 24, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Hip is definitely the word. I was introduced to this album by a drummer friend of mine, and I was immediately turned on by how "un-pushy" everything is. Even when the band is playing funky/syncopated material (i.e. One bad habit, Baseball) everything is very laid back... Never a note more than is needed. Great lyrics and cool jazz-informed melodies is what this record is all about. For me it's been a great introduction to the music of Michael Franks. Don't hesitate... Pick it up at your earliest convenience!
TWO TRACKS TO MAKE YOU BUY THIS CD May 22, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been a devoted fan of Michael's work since I first discovered him in the late 70's whilst living in Miami, as a student. I still have fond memories of his live concerts on Miami Beach....."Love on the beach" sponsered by Love 94, the local FM station. I have nearly all of his albums on vinyl or CD,and they all provide a constant source of musical pleasure. The CD "One Bad Hadit" is now quite an old recording, BUT... there are a couple of tracks on this album that, to me, are quite outstanding, and represent some of the very best examples of Michael doing stuff that is so Michael Franks that I can never put it out of my mind, despite the passage of time. The track "One Bad Habit" epitomises the Jazz/Funk fusion that was Michael's style at the time. The next track "Loving you More and More" is equally outstanding. These tracks alone are good enough reason to make a purchase. I still enjoy this album, despite the huge range of alternative sounds that Michael has made available to us with his more recent works. Buy it for the title track!
