Good album but a little bland July 31, 2003 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
He may get a bit of stick from hardcore jazz fans but ol' Dave Sanborn recorded a nice little album here. A trifle cheesey in it's overall content but it still sounds alright after 21 years. A nice listen from start to finish. What's more is that we get to hear Dave playing soprano. Pretty rare I know, but he plays the sop with such a sweet tone that I don't know why he doesn't do more on the instrument. It sounds so nice. The sidemen are great as with all Sanborn records. Marcus Miller's composition "rush hour" contains some exemplary slap playing, a bass lesson in itself. Also guitarist/singer Mike Sembello is oustanding. This isn't really my bag, but it's a nice album for chilling to. Give it a blast. you might like it, i dunno.
