5 out of 5 stars Another gem   October 20, 2008

Once again Belleruche deliver a fantastic album. Yes I am a long term fan of this trio and I found this album showed a slightly different side to 'the 'Ruche' with a more bluesy, almost creole feel at times. I'm loving the funky faster tunes on this album - and agree with one of the other reviewers that De Boer's voice is used to great effect but I also think that Fabulous's guitar is allowed a starring role for the first time and this is welcome. The album does fail to capture some of the dynamism of the live performance and it can leave some of the production sounding sparse at times but I'm still giving it a 5 because I know it'll get a lot of play in my house!! I can't help but think that Belleruche are going places - get on the Express if you want to go too!

3 out of 5 stars By-the-numbers production   October 15, 2008

While I do like this album and think it's a large improvement over Turntable Soul Music, I still find the production to be simplistic, rather obvious and lacking in "umph". The album kicks off marvellously with 'Anything You Want (Not that)' but then becomes a much more lightweight affair with a lot of bad synth drums.

Aaron Jerome managed to make far better use of Kathrin deBoer's vocals on her three tracks on 'Time to Rearrange' than Belleruche have done over two albums.

5 out of 5 stars New heights of Turntable Soul   October 5, 2008

I've seen Belleruche perform this new material live and bought a copy of the album straight away. The Express builds on the direction they took with the first album, Turntable Soul, and goes further, taking the music to new heights. This band is rising fast following success at Glastonbury 2008 and numerous appearances round UK and Europe. Kathryn de Boer's voice together with the astounding musicianship of Modest and Fabulous is not to be missed. See them on tour if you can and this is definitely an album to add to your collection!
