Exquisite 70s Rock April 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Who needs Freebird ? With the exception of track 17, each of the rest is either good, really good or fabulous heart-rending, foot-stomping, rock of the highest quality - the guitar playing is multilayered and just plain wonderful throughout. At under 3 this is probably the best value CD I have ever bought.
Not Bad February 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
But then not great. This isn't the best 'greatest' package out there. It has some flat versions of songs that are not original recordings. There are also a few better songs that are missing. If you're looking for a greatest hits, this isn't it.
Excellent cut price collection January 19, 2006 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
OK no Freebird. Leaving side that curious omission this is a top notch collection that deserves a place in your home. Simple Man is possibly the BEST LS outing (yes, even surpassing the above mentioned FB), while Sweet Home Alabama, Gimme Three Steps, Country Boy, I ain't the one and Every mothers son are all first class. Very, very good indeed.
dont miss August 22, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
only heard of lynyrd skynyrd through 'sweet home alabama' which appears on a number of rock compliation albums. trawling through amazons deals came across this for 3.33 - bought it and glad I did. All good stuff, don't miss out
Great value CD February 22, 2005 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This CD is certainly for those who've heard Freebird before and have an interest in other material by Skynyrd. On the CD there is an variety of Skynyrd's work including the excellent Needle & The Spoon amongst other great songs like Sweet Home Alabama, Workin' For MCA and the ballad Simple Man. Obviously Freebird isn't on the CD, but in a way that's good because you'll get to know the band for their other songs and styles. For the price it's a great purchase for the person who wants a collection of Skynyrd's work, however The Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd is a great collection of Skynyrd's work (better than this CD) although it doesn't have Needle & The Spoon amongst its tracks.
