best man around October 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just want to say that Joe Bonamassa is deservedly hyped as one of the best guitar players around these days. Being "the best" is a matter of taste but he is in the top club. He plays the blues from the inside, but he can play anything, you hear this is a guy of wide musical tastes and he is just really worth listening to. However this album - his first - is not my favourite by far. If you want to discover him, try the "live from nowhere in particular" (which is also a best of) and the amazing "blues deluxe" first. Anyway, after those two, I guarantee that, like me, you will try and buy everything he has recorded. He is THE MAN. I can't wait to see him live when he comes to Europe this December.

WOW, this album is just fantastic! The guitar work on here is just so reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix, but in a good way. I don't mean that he has just tried to play in Jimi's style or used any of Jimi's actual recordings. I mean that he has quick hands and uses them to their full extent, in the way that Jimi did, and, if there was one thing borrowed from Jimi, he made his guitar sound like he was playing it underwater. This is my next album purchase - I have fallen in love with it and i've heard it only once. For any fan of great guitar work this is an unmissable album.

I had never before heard of Joe Bonamassa, but on hearing this CD I was surprised; at the tender age of 23 he has got some superbly crafted blues and rock songs in his arsenal as well as great guitar playing skills and a superb voice. If you are into blues or rock BUY THIS ALBUM
