Amazon.co.uk Review
Continuum is an apt title for John Mayer's third studio disc. Every element, from the peerless guitar playing to the plainspoken poetry of the lyrics to the breathy-sincere singing, makes a return from previous efforts. Taking maturity as a theme throughout, Mayer tackles a batch of adulthood's bogeymen: indifference on the uptempo "Waiting for the World to Change," aging on the melancholy-sweet "Stop This Train," and emotional trainwreckage on the big-rocking "In Repair." That's not to suggest he's turned overly introspective--check the Jimi Hendrix cover "Bold As Love," where he hits one home for guitarists who've been living in the shadow of legend everywhere, and the hard-charging "Belief," which benefits from a mesmerizing, liquid groove. Continuum may be the third in a series, but a creative cop-out this is not; Mayer is his generation's musical superman--powerful, unassailable, and magnetic. Hand that man a cape. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars awesome   July 3, 2008
His best album yet, this is just a joy to listen to -- from the bursting guitar tones of "Waiting on the World To Change" to the mellow "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room". If you like John Mayer, you won't be disappointed -- but keep your eyes peeled for the Special Edition of this album, which includes live tracks!

5 out of 5 stars A Welcome Surprise   June 20, 2008
This album is an understated gem. A friend started me on John Mayer and I'm now working backwards through his other works - this remains my favourite though. Stand-out tracks include Waiting For The World To Change and Slow Dancing In A Burning Room. It is though, one of those lovely albums where I can give my digits a rest and not hit the FF>> button.
John Mayer is quietly making a name for himself (regardless that he's sh@gging Jennifer Anniston!) and his work is tinged with the genius of similar luminaries such as Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan (albeit on a much more relaxed vibe). This man should go a long long way if he sticks to what he's good at...

5 out of 5 stars Look - John Mayer's gone and got even better!   February 7, 2008
John Mayer is a much underrated talent on this side of the pond. He is massive in America, and that is completely understandable. My better half introduced me to his music shortly after we got together, and so when this album was released (the first time round) in the UK, I had to get a copy for her for her birthday. It's a testament to its greatness that I am considering getting a second copy specifically to leave in the car.

John Mayer has a more blues orientated approach on this album, which is definitely his forte. The album is a beautiful work, with emotional, soulful guitars and vocals. "Vultures" in particular is my favourite track, whilst his cover of "Bold As Love" is exceptional. Mayer has covered Hendrix before (his live version of "The Wind Cries Mary" is nearly up there with the original) and I'm always astonished at how well he does cover Jimi - not many people can pull that trick off. You may well have heard "Waiting On The World To Change" on Radio 2, but I would say that the rest of the album is better than that. There is also some beautiful fingerpicked acoustic on this album, as well as blues tinged electric work. Just listen to "Stop This Train" and then try telling me that Mayer isn't an incredible talent. "Gravity" and "Belief" are also worth a mention, but basically this album is a classic. You can certainly see why Clapton rates John Mayer.

3 out of 5 stars Cool CD. Sounds like James Morrison though!   January 23, 2008

Cool cd, nice and chilled and flows well. Like the guitar solos. Sounds a lot like James Morrison and i would rate Jack Johnson better then both..

5 out of 5 stars John Mayer - Continuum   October 17, 2007

Continuum is the 3rd studio release from American singer/songwriter John Mayer, which follows on from 2003's impressive 'Heavier Things'. Mayer's music has evolved somewhat from his earlier offerings of acoustic pop into a more mature blues influenced sound. Songs such as 'Vultures', 'Heart Of Life', and 'Belief' do enough to justify this claim. The majority of the songs on Continuum are slow relaxed numbers, with plenty of melody and act as the perfect pedestal to showcase Mayer's excellent vocal capabilities. Lyrically the album really stands out, none more significantly than 'Waiting On The World To Change', which was played at the recent Live Earth concert, and could not have been a more perfect song for the event's overall message. It's very rare to find an album that you can honestly say every song is truly excellent, basically there are 12 potential singles here and no fillers whatsoever. How John Mayer hasn't become big in the UK yet is beyond me, but with albums like Continuum to his name, I am positive this will soon change. 10/10. Well done John.
