One of those May 8, 2007 A soundtrack that is eclectic and yet always listenable. Full of interesting quirky music of the type you would never get around to buying but you would like to own. A mixture for whatever mood you are in and your hand is hovering across the various catogories of your collection. Good choice. The right mixture for an intelligent series.
Music from the television series "Northern Exposure" July 17, 2002 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
If you loved "Northern Exposure" you will love this music. Quirky, eclectic, feel-good, and thoroughly professional. Even if you didn't click to NE but appreciate 'world music' you will be inspired by the compilation. Not a duffer on the whole CD. I detest classical wailing but "Chants'd Auvergne" is just simply sublime. Also "Don Quichote" by "Magazine 60" became my all time favourite piece of music, though perhaps an acquired taste. Easy listening, but that's not a criticism. Just very fine music. Not for Britney fans.
An musical ride on an eclectic rollercoaster October 19, 2001 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
If you are a fan of the series or simply the kind of person that has an open mind (and ears) to musical variety - the Northern Exposure Soundtrack is an absolute must. From the simply sublime theme tune of the series, through the Cajun/French sounds of Jolie Louise and the last Medley track, you are taken on a wild ride of seemingly disparate musical styles - but this combination REALLY WORKS. I bought this CD when it was first released, because I am a huge fan of the series - little did I know that the CD would open so many musical doors for me. Since my first listening, I have been out and bought CDs by Etta James, Nat King Cole, Miriam Makeba (the most beautiful voice I have ever heard) and the Songs of the Auvergne, performed by Maria Von Stade. I cannot emphasise this enough BUY IT and buy into the topsy turvey, eclectic and often surreal world of Northern Exposure.
One of the better soundtrack CDs on the market December 7, 1999 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This compilation will take the listener through a variety of moods, ages and cultures that all compliment the querkiness of the TV series. On paper the songs should not fit together but in practice they flow along smoothly. Highlights are perhaps the bopping "Hip Hug-her" and the soulful "At last". A must for all 30+ dinner parties to create a positive atmosphere.
