Memories of childhood come flooding back. A chorus of yums running round the table...come and get it roast leg of insurance salesman. Mud mud glorious mud. A big six wheeler scarlet painted london transport diesel engine 97 horsepower omnibus. The list goes on. A true pleasure and delight in a very old fashioned gentler humour.

Flanders and Swan capture timeless humour through songs of a very unusual origin. If you never imagined to laugh at a song about a gnu, or be caused to think about why one of Britian's national songs is "Jerusalem", perpare to enjoy an interesting experience. Buy it, it's fantastic and if you don't like someone else in your family will love it!

I grew up with this record, through the 1960s. It is witty without being vulgar, charming without being coy, very intelligent without ever being pedantic or condescending, and all in all lots of fun. The songs are delightful and singable. It's adult humour, but a child can enjoy it. I revelled in it at the age of six, and can still listen to it and get more out of the jokes, nearly 40 years later! Some of the humour is topical, but the gentle satire has a universality to it that seems to have lasted. Highly recommended.
