This album is definitely a worthwile purchase if you are a fan of punk music. It is packed with three disks of live, top quality Ramones, and features all their greatest hits. Highly recommended.
One of the best deals you'll get. September 25, 2004 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
The Chrysalis Years covers the Ramones' last four studio albums (Brain Drain, Acid Eaters, Mondo Bizarro and Adios Amigos) and a live album entitled "Loco Live" all recorded under the Chrysalis Label. Many fans will tell you that the Ramones went downhill in their later years, but that really isn't true. While Animal Boy and Halfway To Sanity weren't great albums (despite songs like Bonzo Goes To Bitburg and I Wanna Live), they came back with Brain Drain and shown some of their most lyrically strong songs to date. I'll admit these in general aren't as catchy as any of the songs from the first 4 albums, but they are fantastic. Song like "Pet Semetary" and "I Believe in Miracles" were showing the Ramones were back in the zone. The album didn't sell well, but it remained great. The band then followed this up with Mondo Bizarro (which is on Disc 2 here, strangely enough), continuing the genius with songs like "I Won't Let It Happen", "Poison Heart" and "Tomorrow She Goes Away". The next album was the infamous "Acid Eaters", which, in my opinion, is their most underated album. The album consists entirely of covers from the 60's-70's period, so is often overlooked, but the songs are great. The Who's "Substitute" and Love's "7 and 7 Is" sound great here. The band finished their career with the aptly named "Adios Amigos", which again, is a very well written and soulful album compared to the band's earlier albums, "Born To Die In Berlin" is almost worth the asking price by itself. "Loco Live" is a great live album with songs from all over the Ramones 20 Year-Odd Career, and comes extremely close to the quality of "It's Alive". The albums are worth getting individually at full price, but at this asking price and together it's almost essential. If you even only have a passing interest in the Ramones, this really deserves to be in your record collection.

The Ramones sum up punk. The long hair. The leather jackets..... The first 2 CDs offer a wide selection of Ramones material, and the last is all live recordings, (all begin wit 1-2-3-4, of course!) This CD is a good introduction into the Ramones, or punk in general, even if it is just quantity of material (all 3 CDs are around 70 minutes long)It's a good purchase!!
