as close to perfection as an album is likely to ever get October 10, 2008 To put it very, very bluntly indeed; this album is nothing short of a MASTERPIECE, definately Opeth's best work to date and one of the great albums of all time. Whilst I would say I prefer Blackwater Park and possibly M.A.Y.H in terms of the individual songs, the flow of this album is unparallelled and majestic. Everything sits perfectly; the whole thing is a testament to how talented Opeth are with dynamics and seamless movements from death metal to hauntingly beautiful acoustic. If you are new to Opeth, my suggestion is to go out and buy Blackwater Park and this. Anyone who is a fan of real genuine music cannot be disappointed

I don't think I'm wrong in stating that Opeth will be remembered as one of the best rock bands in the world, long after we all die and our childrens, childrens, children leave for Alpha Centauri!! Still Life is my favourite Opeth album so far. Just like all their albums it contains a whirlwind of musical styles and the whole gamut of human emotion, sometimes in one song! There is a stronger jazz element to this album amongst the usual metal and acoustic stylings. Once more I can't help descending into eulogies. Believe the hype, Opeth are the greatest metal band the world has known.
Still life stands as a big two fingers to all those who believe there is something intrinsically immature and brainless about Heavy Metal. How could you possibly slate this album and claim to be a music fan? Buy it now!

ok you,ve read the reviews and your probably no wiser as to which opeth album to buy first. i,ve listened to them all countless times over the years and this is the one to buy first.. its a masterpiece. then buy blackwater park, morningrise, my arms your herse, orchid, deliverence, damnation and ghost reveries ... in that order. by the time youve soaked them all up and learnt them Opeth will have released their next album. so now you know what to do there's no excuse... get off your ass and go buy!!
THE BEST OPETH ALBUM (IF THERE CAN BE ONE) August 2, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Just simply a perfect album, reviewers have stated basically what I have to say! A great album containing progressive and some death metal elements. And some cool acoustic guitars. Has got everything needed in an album both relaxing and energetic! BUY!
THE BEST OF THE BEST January 21, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Opeth really are fantastic but this is exceptional, the best albumn i have ever heard, and this comes from someone who listens to virtually no other death metal bands, indeed i am usually into flamenco! So never be put of by the narrow minded people who lump Opeth into that genre and leave it at that, they do everything and do it all so well. Death metal vocals are not easy to listen to if you are not use dto it.....however with time you begin to appreciate them (i cant do it!) especially after seeing them live (5 times for me) he really can just switch between his amazing melodic voice and then his 'demon of the fall' voice without litres of water. It is in this album that they really hit the spot for me, it satnds in the middle of their early work which was more raw and unforgiving and the newer albums where the become i think a little more experimental than the had done in the early days. Still life combines the best of those worlds and every song is a classic pact with amazing guitar riffs and fantastic song construction the twists and turns in the music are quite unpredicatble, never boring and always rewarding. Softer beuaty is acvailable in the Face of Melinda and Benighted whilst white cluster and serenity painted death show the heavy monster they can be. The Moor however stands out to me as the best song to open an album.....after years the hairs stand up still when it reaches the end of the buildup when Aekerfelt begins to roar.
