5 out of 5 stars Simply Outstanding!!The boys from Wales still have it!!!   October 6, 2008

Having achieved phenomenal success with their fantasic debut 'The poison' album, it was hard to imagine that Bullet For My Valentine could produce another album of such a high standard. In my opinon, Scream Aim Fire is even better than their previous album and is probably the best Album I've heard this year. And no, this isn't a 'reflex review' I have been listening to this album since it came out in January and I am still in addicted to it. This CD is somewhat similar to their first album, however, you can tell that the subject matter of the songs is more mature now and that the style of music leans more towards a thrash metal influence this time.
Some people have critisised Matt Tucks voice in this album, well OK he did have throat problems, but his voice doesn't really sound as bad as some say. I'd say his voice does sound a bit deeper and rougher, but this goes well with their new style in my opinion.
Each of the songs on this album are fantastic:

1. SCREAM AIM FIRE- A great opener that really sets the tone for the album and gets you ready for the chaos that you're about to hear.
2. EYE OF THE STORM - Just listen to those riffs at the start, and then wait and get blown away by the guitar solo at around 2 mins 30.
3. HEARTS BURST INTO FIRE - A quieter song with another killer opening riff and great lyrics giving it an anthemic feel. I can imagine this one being good played live
4. WAKING THE DEMON - A heavy track with powerful shredding guitars and screaming vocals. But it also has a really melodic chorus to top it off. One of my fave tracks.
5. DISAPPEAR - Another belter of a song, kind of like this albums equivalent to 'suffocating under words of sorrow'
6. DELIVER US FROM EVIL - Probably the best song on the album, it has a slower pace, but it sounds really epic.
7. TAKE IT OUT ON ME - The first half of the song is heavy, but you need to wait until around 3 mins when it gets slower and it breaks into some amazing guitar riffs.
8. SAY GOODNIGHT - A slow starter, with a beautiful guitar solo and great lyrics that gradually gets heavier until it breaks into a chaotic array of guitar shredding and screaming.
9. END OF DAYS - A heavier song, with excellent screaming vocals and a catch-as-hell riff throughout.
10. LAST TO KNOW - Another heavy one. Not the best on the album though, but still a great track
11. FOREVER AND ALWAYS - A slow song throughout with some nice guitar work, however, this is the weakest song on the CD in my opinion. And it can't compete with the last song off the poison album 'The End' (Helluva finish to an album)

So if you're a fan off metal music and great melodies, and you're looking for something to blow you away, then you need to check out Scream Aim Fire NOW.

4 out of 5 stars 'Difficult second album' proves to be a hit   September 5, 2008
While I am certain that many fans of Bullet for my Valentine will really hate this album because of it's slightly more comercial sound, I think it's a fantastic album with lots of great, memorable songs that will sit nicely in their live set with tracks off 'The Poison' and the EP. I will rin through the album track by track:

Scream Aim Fire - A great opener to the album and title track. As soon as I heard this song on Kerrang! I knew the album was going to be great. Great chours and solo. 9/10

Eye of the Storm - Another really strong track with some classic BFMV-style vocals and drumming. 8/10

Hearts Burst into Fire - Although this is extremely comercial and 'single material', I think that this is my favourite track on the album. It has a great chours and the guitar line in the chours is fantastic. 10/10

Waking the Demon - Another single, another great song. Unfortunately the video for this song is extremely cringeworthy. 8/10

Disappear - A fairly standard metal track. Nothing really special. 6/10

Deliver us from Evil - Another standard metal track. 7/10

Take it out on Me - This song apparently features Benji Webbe from Skindred but to be honest I don't really know what he does in it. I assume he sings. Not a very memorable song. 6/10

Say Goodnight - Quite a soft one by their standard. Nice mid-album break. 7/10

End of Days - Another standard metal track - 7/10

Last to Know - In my opinion this is a very strong track with great screams and guitars. 8/10

Forever and Always - Similar to 'The End' on 'The Poison'. I didn't really like that so I don't also really like this one. It drags out too much but I can imagine would be good for closing live sets. 6/10

As you can see, it's one of those albums with all the really good tracks (with the exception of 'Last to Know') at the beginning which means you spend the rest of the album waiting for that last good one. However, I would buy this album for the strong ones alone and their 'goodness' outways all the weak tracks. I will be seeing them live in November so I hope they're as good live as on the record.

2 out of 5 stars Playing it Safe   August 12, 2008
Clearly BFMV know what there doing, 11 tracks all with the potential to be a single. And here lies the main problem after 5 listens through this, all the songs on this album sound the same and follow the same formula: thrash metal riff, clean vocals/emo-chorus, clean bridge and iron maiden esque solo and chuck in a few screams repeat to fade.

It doesn't excite me one bit if i'm perfectly honest, there are a lot of other bands playing thrash (we seem to be in the middle of a thrash revival) which is daring, has balls and most importantly is exciting.

No doubt the black eyelined massive will lap it up, but this is pure pop metal..if you want a good thrash album invest in Testament - the formation of damnation.

One last point - the song titles are beyond awful! cliche after cliche!

4 out of 5 stars 1980s throwbacks   July 21, 2008
What is so bad about BFMV sounding like classic Iron Maiden and Metallica? As I very clearly remember, these bands were hysterically popular in the 1980s and then practically disappeared under the tide of grunge and execrable nu-metal in the 90s. For a 30-something male trying to relive his youth, its great to have bands like BFMV turning out solid fare like Scream Aim Fire, which unlike Maiden, does not sound dated.
The production is excellent with olympic standard drumming and tight and imaginative guitar work. The vocals are a tad on the weak side at times but this is compensated for by an injection of genuine melody, big choruses and a throaty screams which are thankfully not overused. The lyrical content of some of the songs is a touch pre-pubecsent at times but this is outweighed by the genuine energy and pace of the album.
