A masterpiece November 5, 2008 I've listened to this album for a few weeks now and have to say it's the best rock album i've bought in the last 5 years or so, i'm that impressed by it. It takes me back to when i listened to nu-metal as a teenager. It has awesome guitar riffs, beautiful melodies, but most of all it sounds real and alive, it sounds like it has been written from the soul. I wasn't expecting much, as Brian is obviously mainly known as a guitarist but his voice is suprisingly good. Most of the tracks are fairly long but you really don't notice because with most of the songs, just as you think you know where it's going next, it changes on you into a haunting piano sequence or into a different melody entirely. I often buy albums and skip through tracks, but i can listen to this all the way through over and over. If you enjoy good music, then just get it, can't recommend it highly enough.
Great album, long time coming October 16, 2008 Got this album today, after getting it imported for a tenner from a guy i know who owns a small music shop where i live, this album is excellent, brian has learnt to sing for this record and he has an incredible voice, from screams to clean vocals, its all really good, for people who love early korn/static-x this is a great buy, but its so much more diverse than just to be aimed at people who like "nu-metal", its like jesus personally singing to you! (ok, maybe not, but...)
BUY IT.
not from here, the release date keeps changing on here, so get a music shop to import it for you.
Excellent debut album October 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was surprised how good this album is as a life long korn fan I wasnt sure what to expect. From the opening track L.O.V.E to the last track WASHED BY BLOOD it is consistent and he isnt a bad singer either. Lets face it korn have been rubbish since he left Head sounds more like Korn than Korn do now if that makes sence. Great album stand out tracks RE-BEL , HOME, L.O.V.E and FLUSH
Not what i expected!!! October 2, 2008 As an avid Korn fan since 'Life Is Peachy', I was torn apart hearing about Head's departure from the band. As a guitar player, he was the main reason I loved korn!
That said, it was many years ago that Head left Korn and since then the band has somewhat fallen apart (what with David and Munky leaving, and now JD and Fieldy recently announcing they are going on an indefinate break). So what's taken so long for this debut album to be released? I know Head has written a book sharing the title of the album, but 'Save Me From Myself' has been a long time coming.
After hearing 'Flush', the lead single from the album, it's hard to know why it's taken so long. It's a great song. Amazing even, seeing as he was just a guitarist in Korn. Where the hell did that voice come from! And how did JD keep him so quiet on 'Untouchables' or 'Take Another Look In The Mirror'?! If anything Heads gravelly, throaty, heavy vocals would have suited those albums better than Davis's. However, I do think Head's re-using a few riffs off 'Follow The Leader' in this song, especially from 'Freak On A Leash' (correct me if I'm wrong), but we can let that slide.
That said, this album is quite preachy. As a 'born again christian', Brian Welch is not afraid to share his revolations and beliefs in religion and the lyrics show this. It doesn't take away from the music, but I think he may alienate many of his fans from his Korn days.
I like this album. It really surprised me.
I'll give it 7 out of 10. If you like Korn, especially JD's work on 'Queen Of The Damned', you'll love this.
