Just another JulianaHafield band....? October 28, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Fans of Juliana Hatfield and Blake Babies will be pleased to know that Juliana Hatfield and Freda Love Smith, along with Heidi Klum, have started a new band, Some Girls, an all female band with a indie rock pop lo-fi sound. Julianas vocals are a million miles away from the melodic girlish yelping of the earlier blake babies records, and are less personal and intense than her solo stuff. The album Feel It is pleasent to listen too, with witty and ironic lyrics and a cool laidback sound; although this is a must for Blake Babies and Hatfield fans, as it is another intriguing piece of Juliana's, and Freda's, talent- other people may prefer to check out some of the girls other work- as although the record is great it is not as amazing as "Innocence and Experience" or "Become what you are". However there are some great songs on this album, the opening track "Feel It" is strangely wistful and retrospectful seeming, whilst tracks like "The Prettiest Girl", "Necessito" and "Robot City" are intelligent and energetic. "Launch Pad" is written and sung by Freda, unusual on the past Blake Babie's albums, and there is aso a cover of "Malted Milk". Buy the record, listen to it,like it... bu don't be afraid to discover some of the earlier stuff.
