Danger... on a global scale! August 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
World watch out, 'cause 7 Seconds of Love is headed your way!
OK, have to admit that you people in the UK have the advantage here, but just for the moment. You get this new album before we do, but if we're lucky we in the US will get it by Christmas... and this listener will be happy to see that happen.
No, we haven't had the advantage of seeing Joel and 7 Seconds of Love as a live act, but many of us are aware of this extraordinary group even since Joel introduced us to the Spongmonkeys via an extraordinary television advert for Quiznos, a US-based restaurant chain. No, their commercial hit "We Love the Subs" (which was derived from "We Love the Moon") isn't on this CD, but some of their other hits that are personal favorites are, such as:
- Ninja - Looking For My Leopard - Submarine - Winners - First Drink Of The Day - Twister - Love Me Like You Used To
And how do we know about these? From having downloaded and enjoyed the available mp3s over a period of time. From having a 12-year-old son who has been addicted to these songs from an age that would cause many parents to frown.
Also on this CD are some others of which we're familiar and do enjoy, but take a look here for a moment... how many times have we bought an album because we liked two or three tracks on it? In this case, I've noted seven of them - over half of the album, so that's more than enough to justify buying it... right?
In any case, I'll just have to keep playing my copy of Gogol Bordello's Gypsy Punks or watching my USB Humping Dog perform until we can get this one here in the US.
We've heard the tracks and envied you in the UK from being able to see them perform at live gigs, so maybe we can all get behind them and make it possible for them to appear at Burning Man or some other venue in the US in 2009. And yes, their music does bring a smile to the face of anyone who hears it, as another reviewer noted. So Joel, can you hear us? In the US by Christmas, OK?
Happy happy music. Hooray for 7 seconds of love! August 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the long and eagerly awaited release from 7 seconds of love, whose good natured, beautifully crafted songs have been enjoyed by UK fans at numerous fantastic gigs, and online, by fans worldwide for the last few years.
On stage, the band are musically superb, entertaining and really good "rock your face off" fun ...... this album reflects the infectious energy and good humour for which they have become renowned.
The songs are highly original and at times the lyrics somewhat bizarre-yet they have a strange logic of their own. ..
The music is tightly performed (these guys can really play), catchy, memorable and in some cases anthemic... Winners in particular has a a good shouting chorus. It is also splendid to dance to!
Well established favourite tracks are Ninja and Soupy George, with their amusing lyrics and sing along choruses.
My personal favourite is Love Me Like you Used To- a moving, and musically brilliant lament to a lost love.
The album will be much treasured by fans who already know many of the tracks from hearing them at gigs or online.
It should also open the eyes of others, as yet unaware, to the excellence of this band.. The record will bring a smile to the face of anyone who hears it and deserves to be a huge success
All hail 7 seconds of love!!!
Not about safety - beware August 16, 2008 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I bought this CD thinking it would be about Health and Safety, a subject I find not only important but also extremely interesting. Unfortunately the CD I received contains music, Pah! At least I now can use the case as a helmet, but even that is a bit flimsy.
The most important band of the 21st century August 15, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Lennon had nothing on these guys, buy the album and prepare to have your face ROCKED RIGHT OFF.
Hilarious modern ska-type stuff, every track will bring a smile ;)
Fun Fun Fun! August 14, 2008 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Finally a CD version of the 7 seconds of Love songs! after downloading most of these back in the day when they were available free i can say the majority of the CD is fun, funky, catchy ska stuff. There's some right anthems, 'First drink of the day' and appropriately the first song on the CD will put u straight in the mood to get drinking and the rest of the songs pretty much continue this trend which is a very enjoyable trend indeed. The lyrics here are of somewhat supremely written and possibly the most captivating since the days of Boney M. The song 'Soupy George' chants 'Soupy George youv'e got soup on your head!' throughout the song. . . brilliant! Overall a damn fun album which is well worth investing in, quick dancey ska excellence! A definite for any party! For a sample of what these guys are about check out 'Ninja', 'Danger of Death' or 'Twister' as well as the ones already mentioned!
