One for the road October 24, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If I was ever stuck on a desert island, and could take only one album, this would have to be it. I love music from all genre's but this is the album that got me into Genesis, espcially the track One for the Vine.
Some great tracks, its moves along so well, and its a pleasure to listen too.
Its a shame it was not the orignal American release which featured studio tracks on side 4, hence the title of the album, but any Genesis fan worth thier salt will have a copy of that version anyway !
A great driving cd
"THE best live album " May 13, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have been listening to this album ever since it came out 25 years ago ! and it was one of the albums that got me into genesis. It still sounds as good today as it did then, it has everything , great sound, great atmosphere, fantastic music and a brilliant choice of tracks. The "in the cage medley" being a particular highlight. For anyone with a slight interest in the "rockier" side of genesis , and who has never been lucky enough to see them live , this is a must have album, you will not be dissapointed .
Great live album from the guys! February 23, 2004 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Well, where do I start with this review of the G-men's third live album?Perhaps I could say Three Sides Live represents some of their back catalogue missing from Seconds Out (In The Cage/Afterglow, The Fountain Of Salmacis etc.) as well as a few of their more recent album tracks and hit singles (Abacab, Follow You Follow Me, Misunderstanding etc.) as the guys started to gain a significantly larger following than in the days of Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett. To hear the In The Cage/Afterglow medley on CD is a genuine delight, as are the last two tracks featuring Hackett and Bill Bruford. Can't be beat. The only downside to the album is the dodgy trackings on disc 2, but that shouldn't really put you off too much!
A magic and atmospheric collection..... January 10, 2002 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
The atmosphere created from this live album recorded from several gigs in America and Europe, is one that is hard to match. The sound quality for a start is superb, so all subtleties can be hard in excellent clarity. What sells this album for me are the rare live takes of Behind the Lines and Duchess, quite marvalous. Several tunes namely Dodo and Abacab are linked in a segue, with super proggressive drumming from chester. On of the highlights though is the last couple of tracks on CD 2, recorded in 1976, and feature Hackett and Bruford, yet still posess the same quality of musicanship and blend into the album very well. All in all an excellent example of 80s Genesis, a must for the collection.
The best CD you wil ever buy February 10, 2001 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
Whether you are a fan or not, this double album is magical, capturing the essence of the most creative of rock groups before it was hijacked by Phil Collins. I have owned this album for nearly 15 years (in various formats) and I still find listening to it a tremendous experience. A real must for any music fan.
